Barclays CLI experience

Wanted to see if I can could get my Barclay Arrival Plus from the current 23K to 35K, so I took the hard pull and requested 12K increase online. Got a pending msg so I called in, was transferred to what I assume was a credit analyst. She asked me the basic verification questions and the reason for the increase request.

My real reasoning: I was a little bored, i don't like the number 23 and wanted to at least match my highest limit card which is the AMEX at 25k. On top of that my TU had 0 inqs and in California most pulls are with EX so why not take a hit.

My reasoning with the analyst: I'd like to use the Barclay as my main card so I would be moving my spending from my AMEX, therefore I wouldnt want the utilization to be impacted.

Response from analyst: you are doing a great job with your credit yada yada yada, BUT we cannot extend any more credit as your current highest limit is AMEX with 25K and we don't feel comfortable going there.

me: I'm shocked to learned that, is that how Barclays like to be perceived? As a follower and not a leader in the market?

analyst: based on your credit report that's what we feel comfortable. AKA yes.

me: really?(I was very surprised) Can you at least match my AMEX at 25K?

Analyst: unfortunatelly we cannot.

me: ok, thank you and have a good night.

My Credit Profile:

all clean, no derrogs ever, no INQ on TU and utilization under 3% overall.

scores: hovering around 780 across the board.

AAOA: 3.1yrs

Oldest credit line: 7yrs

Current cards on my sig.

income: 130k

When I got my Barclays card last fall, they came in at $2,000 below my highest limit at the time. And your Barclays card is also $2,000 below your highest limit. My guess is that they're not comfortable with being your highest-limit card, but they're perfectly comfortable with being your highest-spend card.

I'm certainly not going to poke any Barclays bear. I have too many new accounts to do that, and my limits have increased substantially in the past few months. I use the card and pay it off. But other than that, I'm leaving them alone.

If you want a 25k plus card the best route would be to join Navy Federal or Penfed. With Navy, they just might give you a starting 24k to begin with, problem solved

Barclay's is cheap overall.. My friend has a CSR with 80k limit and other cards with 50k limits about 4 or 5 cards total i believe.. Just for giggles he did the titanium card a year plus ago and they initially gave him a 10k limit he called in and complained and they raised it to 20k, but didn't want to go any higher until he had a relationship with them.. blah blah blah . He still has the card cause they waived the AF for this year as he was going to cancel.

His stats where tu fico at time of appplication 848

income: 375k

So ya don't expect barclay's to hand out any big credit lines. they arent really known for this
