Discover Pre-Qualify

I know you guys and girls can answer this question for me, so here goes. I have had my Discover IT card about 5 months now and I love it. Just out of curiosity, I went to their Pre-qualify site and put in my name, address and last 4. It tells me I am pre-qualified for a Discover IT. It has a solid APR and 14% of no interest. Since I have only had my IT for 5 months, I am just wondering, do I qualify for another one? Don't know that I would apply, but, have to admit, curiousity is getting the better of me!!

No, you have to have your card a full year before they'll approve another.

Why even think of getting a second identical card? I really can't see how it benefits you short term or long term? Hmm I have a better idea....

Thanks Average Joe. I just thought it odd that it shows another IT card. I'm not thinking of applying for it, just wondered if it was actually available. Discover has been good to me thus far...

Good thing is when years up you might go for the Miles card and get the double miles deal. I understand this is basically another double cash opportunity but i may be wrong

First off, I want to know how op got a solid APR from Discover. Do they even have a legit prequal page? All I have ever found on their page is an offers page which never gives you anything solid.

I wonder the same thing. It says pre-qual but never gives the "We could not match you to any offers..." it just lists cards. So I never know if it is a true pre-qual or just suggested cards.

Discovers prequalify site is a sham. I input "noname" as a first name, "any name" as a last name and "1000" as the last 4 of the SSN.

i got the same response as when I input my real name and last 4 of my SSN.

Just tried the same experiment by putting in John Smith and other made up info. Congratulations you're approved!

Wow!

I am glad when I did the prequal and then applied that I was approved with a nice SL. I would be soooo upset if I wasted a HP.

It’s so hard to believe that tools like this and BOA’s are out there. What’s the point? The loss of reputation has to account for something...something the marketing dept. isn’t factoring.

BOA is a marketing site. You will receive a list of cards as everyone does, but you might as well cold app and cross your fingers.

I have run the prequal on myself a dozen times and I was tempted until I did my research on this site. I would say try the Credit Pulls Database and see if you find profiles similar to yours getting approved. I would consider that more reliable.

I was denied with a solid prequal....granted it was a high APR, for discover that is. Are you referring to BofA C00mtg?

Dicover...I think that's a first i hear about this. I currently have a set APR of 24% lol, don't need it but did check.

I was pre-qualified for $2,500 last year with a single-figure APR of 26.24% after the 14-month 0% APR period. Being a bit frustrated with the rather anemic CLI's I was getting on that card (didn't even get one this month, though I might have better luck next month once all the payoff/paydown activity and CLI's on other cards has shown up on the next TU soft pull), I ran my info through the prequalification routine again, got another single-figure APR offer a few points lower than the older card, and (after verifying ID information) got a new $5,000 card which I hope will get better CLI's (I'm going to run all my grocery shopping over the upcoming quarter through this card and PIF using the cash I'd otherwise have spent on groceries, and see how that goes).
