Amex CLI applications....

I asked for a CLI on my BCE and was denied. Reason stated I had been denied in the last 90 days on one of my cards. (Had to be this one as the other 2 are newer)

My question is my new ED Card was just approved. Can I ask for the 3X 61 day CLI on it since the 60 days would now be before the 90 days is up from the most recent denial?

ETA: does an account combination count as a CLI with Amex like it does with CapOne? I want to combine the BCe into the EDP. I was planning on getting my 61 day CLI on EDP and then combining but maybe there is no reason to wait to combine. Thx

No, all CLI requests are account specific. If you have to wait 90 days then that applies to all cards in your account .The 61 day 'rule' which isn't even always enforced really applies only to your first Amex revolver. After that any CLI schedule applies to your entire account regardless of how many or how new the cards are.

Do you happen to know the answer to the combination question? Do they count that as a CLI like CapOne does, or if I combine my 2 cards now I can still get a CLI when 90 days from my last CLI attempt was made?

They don't count credit limit transfers or account combination as a CLI. They also don't count auto CLIs in terms of user requested CLIs.

Irish... or anyone else.....

First off I am a moron since I cannot understand this.

So even though my first revolver was denied for the 61 day CLI.... has since then I have gotten denied for not waiting 90 days from that first denial....

Now I got my second revolver. Still no CLI on the first one.

What should I do? Finish out the 90 days from the 1st revolver denial and apply then.... or wait 61 days from the second revolver to ask on that one?

Eventually I will combine these cards so I don’t care which one gets the CLI.

Hope I am making sense. I am so confused and it’s probably way simpler than I am making it. Sorry for being so idiotic on this topic. Lol

For Amex it's specifically more than 90 days after a decline, so do it on day 91 or later. Irish did a great job explaining, but to put it as simply as possible: if you are denied a CLI on any Amex card, you must wait 91 days until asking for a CLI on any other or the same Amex card. So even if that first 61 days or later on 181 days have passed and your card becomes "eligible," you as an Amex customer are not elibile until it has been either 181 days since your last CLI on any card or 91 days since your last denial on any card.

To confirm the CapOne question, Amex does not consider credit line changes outside of customer-initiated CLI requests to reset the clock.

When you get a denial on your first CLI attempt ... let’s say at day 60 because you counted wrong. You can still apply on day 61 (the next day) and get approved. I’ve seen many posts on that.

So if I applied for a CLI on day 61 and was denied I need to wait 91 days from that denial to get one on any card. I get that.

What I am wondering is let’s say I try to get a CLI 89 days after my last denial. Do I then need to wait another 91 days because I didn’t count right or if I applied 2 days later which would be 91 days then I would be eligible.

Asking too early doesn't count as a denial. As impatient as I am, that would be disastrous! LOL I have asked too early, got the email that I needed to call in (which I don't do after the first time since I now know that they are just going to tell me their policy of needing to wait at least 90 days), and then tried again with success the next day, or the day after. Mildly related, but trying to reallocate credit lines between Amex revolvers less than 30 days since the last time is the same. No clock reset, just attempt again on another day.

Not sure what I am counting wrong then. I appreciate the replies. I keep getting the “you have been denied in the last 90 days” reasons. Thing is, if I understand correctly I should not be getting that reasons. I was denied in May of 2017-mid May let’s say. So by July 1 for sure which is a bit over 90 days (or 91) I should be fine, yet I just got one this week that says the 90 day thing.

If I call them would they tell me when I am eligible again?

Mid-May to July 1 isn't 90 days. For example, May 15 to July 1 is only 52 days.

Yeah, you'll need to wait until at least mid-August: 91 days or more after your mid-May denial. If you call the number in the email you got from Amex they will tell you the date that you may try again. ~~You can also use the Amex Application Status page to see when you made your requests~~. (Edit: I thought that showed CLI requests but it specifically says that it doesn't. I do see all of the times I did or tried to reallocate revolving lines from Blue to SPG.)
