Discover it pre-qualify?

I went to their website and with a 618 true fico they said I was pre-qual, Should I bite on this and maybe get denied with real application? It did not say this was for their secured card. I am kind of cautious about applying for even a secured card, but I have no revolving accounts reporting right now.

Any suggestions??

Discovers prequal site is not very reliable. If it days your prequaled for an It card and is giving you a wide range it is just suggestion. I find that if it says your name and that theyve found a personalised offer with a single apr, not range, that is more reliable. 618 seems low to get the It card but then again, with Discover one truely never knows. They seem to give better sl to those with thin files or recent bk than those with established credit. They truely are YMMV

+1 to this. I wouldn't waste your time, let your score go up for a little while longer. I've been getting prequals from them in the mail for 6 months now, and I usually see two of them a month and was still denied (though that reason was because they pulled my Experian which recently started reporting incorrrect info in my case, prob won't bother again until it's fixed). Take prequals with a grain of salt for the most part.

You can always try their Discover It secured card if you really want a Discover card. From what I understand, they do monthly reviews to determine if they can graduate you to a unsecured It card.

Lol mailers and average joe mix like peanut butter and jelly Discover, 5 tries, 6hps, almost over my 1st year cash back, the shine has definetly come off a little, not much, but enough to take my salt and add it to my Navy MRE

And always remember prequals aren't always needed, though I'd wait until your scores come up a bit.

I recently got my Discover It with a $7k SL with no prequal.

But as always, YMMV

If the page says something to the effect of, "how does your card stack up?"and a 10% or higher apr range, run away.

Would you consider applying for their secured card? That is if you want to get in with Discover now and start to establish some history with revolving credit. I think within 3 mos. of good CL management and paying your balances on time would have some positive results on your credit scores. That 613 would probably be 50 points higher when your 3rd month comes in so imagine working on it for 6 mos. Discover also graduates their secured cards within 7 mos. I believe. And by then you are in a good position to request for limit increases and start growing the card. Just like you I did not have any revolving credit history on my report and I had to start with a secured card as well and it has done wonders for me. I think the Discover secured card is a good choice since you will also be getting cashback rewards while you are using the card, and that's a win win on my book. It's hard to find secured cards that would offer cashback rewards. Best of luck making a decision.

Maybe I've been out the 'game' too long, but your scores seem high enough to get unsecured store cards. I would suggest doing that instead of going the secured route. I would say get 2-3 CCs and use them frequently and PIF every month.

Thanks for the great advice. So..today, I got an alert that the fico equifax score have been updated. It jumped from 618 to 639. I think I am going to apply for the Disco secured card. That will really help with having no revolving accounts.

I apped for a discover it card successfully a few weeks ago using its prequalify tool, but my fico was much higher than yours, in the 700 range, so idk if works right for you. 618 is pretty low for a discover it card, in my opinion. However, I've heard someone was approved with similar score before. miracal could happen.

I was approved for the Disco IT with a 643 score. SL of 2200.

My score XYZ was and "I" was approved it just adds little to no useful information because profiles are of different ages, some thin, some thick...some scores are low due to high debt utilization but thick enough to overcome, while others are low because of baddies or collections.... scores alone aren't that useful w/o context
