Citi AAdvantage Invite Code?

I cold app Citi Aadvantage a few weeks ago and was denied due to some baddies. I went ahead and did a small app spree and was approved for Discov and another Cap One QS1.

Today I was emailed an "exclusive invitation number" form American Airlines for Citi's AAdvantage card. How reliable is this invitation? When I plugged it into the offers on Citi's website, I see a range of APR's. I don't want to do another HP without certainty that its a more solid lead. I know YMMV, but still. I'm just being cautious.

Did you try prequal? My prequals normally have better rates. Citi has been shoving these down my throat lately. Sometimes three of them for different Citi cards the same day in the mailbox.

Under the prequal page - no offers. But if I plug in the invite code (aka responding to a mail offer), it does come up with Aadvantage application with an APR range.

Never have pre-quals for me, but approved none the less for the cards....

Is it a set APR on the invitation?

What are you FICO scores and number of inquiries and AAOA. Citi can be very funky.

I don't think it's a preapproval. The giveaway is the range of APR's. Sorry.

I never showed a pre-approval on Citi's site but I entered the invite code and applied and got instantly approved for AAdvantage card. I would just apply.

No, the invitation code is not any kind of preapproval. It is purely marketing. As you were denied for the card several weeks earlier, the chances of being denied again are very good. I'd hold off for at least 6 months or until you see an improvement in credit scores.

I had a sneaky feeling it was marketing. I was planning on gardening till early next year Thank you all for your responses!
