MasterCard Black?!?!?

So I got an invitation in the mail for THE Black Card. It doesn't say anything about me being prequalified anywhere but it says "You're invited to become a Luxury Card Member". It also has a stated APR of 15.99% foir purchases and 26.24% for cash advances. I know this card is really way above anything that I need especially since it has a $495 annual fee...but I was just cuirious if anyone could shed some light on if this is a solid offer or if it's just a generic mailer that they send out to people. It does have an application with a personal ID code on it...again I'm not sure if that actually means anything or not lol

Unless it states "preapproved" it's an offer to apply. Just in experience.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I have one for you. Why on Earth would anyone even want this card? A Credit One card can, and most likely will, give you more value.

Having a $500 AF, i would only apply for a card if it truely benefits me. Dont let a cards look or marketing ploy fool you. Im sure for $500 they wouldnt mind inviting anyone thats willing to fork it over for the privelege of having a luxury card

The one person I know who has this card is a crazy old eccentric who lives in a crumbling house with broken down cars in his garage. The house sits on a hill with a water view and the cars, if restored, would probably be worth more than a million dollars. He was born into European aristocracy and he's an insufferable snob, but he lost everything including his professional licence years ago due to bad behavior. He wouldn't do anything to help himself because he considered it beneath him so now he doesn't have the money for upkeep. He hangs onto this card desperately because it proves to the people at the grocery store that he's a somebody.

That's the sort of person this card is for.

The card in question costs $495 a year and has benefits more crappy than some no fee cards. What value does it have other than giving the holder a sense of status?

So whoever you think is a fool, this card is for them? Whoever applies for this card you feel would be a fool?

What's crappy to you may not be crappy to others.

I personally wouldn't get it because I don't like Barclay.

I certainly would not make a statement that the only reason why someone would apply and obtain the card is to give them a sense of status.

It's not to often now adays we hand someone our cards for a purchase. We swipe or insert the card ourselves.

donny10, you didn't answer my question. I asked what value this card has other than as a status symbol.

It's true we either swipe or dip our cards most of the time these days, but other people still see them and I'm talking about a man in a small town where people notice each other a lot. The man I mentioned makes sure people see that card, but it doesn't impress them as much as he thinks it does, partly because it's not an impressive card, partly because everybody knows the man by reputation anyway.

I'm sorry I offended you. Maybe I'll change my mind about the card when you explain what benefits it has that make it worth $495 a year.

I'm not defending the card. I don't care what the benefits the card has good or bad and or compared to other cards.

I was responding to your opinion by calling it "crappy" and insinuating that only a fool would apply for it and that person applying is only doing so for a status symbol.

I disagree with your comments. You can agree or disagree with me as well.

I think we can all agree that Credit One cards are all crappy, but they serve a purpose. They help people who are in a pickle and have no other or limited options. I think if you actually look at this card we'd all be able to also agree that this is a crappy card, but it does serve a purpose. It is supposed to be a status symbol that you can show off.

We are not talking about Credit One.

But we're talking about the MasterCard BlackCard and I really don't see a difference between the two. They're both bad cards. I actually think if you forced someone to pick one of these two to be added to their collection, most would pick a CreditOne card. Why anyone would want this card other than to say they have this card is incomprehensible to me.

If you took away that annual fee and then asked me to choose between Credit One and The Black Card id still choose Fingerhut
