I've banked with Chase now for over 7yrs.

Have never been pre-qualified for anything.

I applied for the Freedom 3yrs ago and was approved for a $500 SL. 3yrs later, it still sits at $500.

About 2 months ago when all 3 of my scores got above 700, I applied for the Freedom unlimited.

Got a $2k SL.

Here I sit, with all scores above 759, one close to 800 and never get pre-qualified mailers or ever show anything I'm pre-qualified for.

It tells me that scores mean very little anymore and just want rich people who make over $100k a year to get the good limits.

Good luck on your journey

I've been a chase banking customer, and have good income but am rebuilding my credit after a divorce and bk... )bk no longer appears on my credit report).

I'm slowing rebuilding starting earlier this year, current scores are 667/673/660, 1% util, with capone, creditone, overstock and a car loan. All current. A couple of negs that are paid off, plus a single $80.00 medical which is 6 yrs old.

I've been a Chase banking customer for about 15 years with direct deposit but when I try to use the Chase prequal site I never have any offers. I think my scores are a little low but from what I read people with lower scores have gotten Chase cards.

Is there any kind of pre-consideration line that I can try and have them look at my banking history with them and leverage that relationship... rather than applying and trying a reconsideration?

I'm going to be applying for a new CapOne card shortly... should I just wait and do the Chase at the same time to cluster the HPs?

Thanks!

x1a1x1, you sound me when I was rebuilding and had a very long established track record with Wells Fargo (please do not derail folks....). I would try to get a card with them and was always met with resistance. I had to understand and separate the two experiences and understand that just because I had years of direct deposits, cash savings, and even a brokerage account that it did not matter for underwriting credit cards. You really didn't say what your AAoA is and such but you'd likely be better off just using your existing CC's hard and get a nice track record going.

Think of it like a graduate coming out of university. Companies want to hire you after you have experience, but apparently those same companies did not want to be the ones who helped you build experience. The bigger banks want you to get your experience on someone else's dime and will welcome you then.

Keep gridiing, you will abolutely get there!

I don't think your scores are that bad. I bank with Chase and I've never been pre-approved for any of their cards either. I don't think your banking with Chase is a huge factor in getting a cc or not. They look at your credit report. Not your checking and savings accounts. I'd say continue to focus on building your credit. You also never mentioned what Chase cc you're interested in?

Never had a prequal for any Chase product either. My scores were in the same range when I applied for the majority of the CCs I have with them now. As stated above, your scores aren't that bad, probably more of average.

Platinum $300 SL). My SL was $4500 and my Experian FICO at the time was 645. At the time I had 2 chargeoffs and multiple unpaid medical collections on my reports.

I was shocked I was instantly approved. There is no pre consideration. Inquiries are over rated. Go for it, if you have to recon, so what. All the more experience you will have. Good luck.

Yeah, a lack of preapprovals doesn't necessarily mean you won't get approved for a card with Chase. To my knowledge, there really is no other way to find out if you have a good chance, however- your best bet is to apply and see what happens. Your scores really aren't bad, and I'd say it's more likely than not that you'd get a Freedom, assuming you're under 5/24 (albeit with a low SL, most likely). Hell, I've even seen some approvals for CSP with scores in your range, but I definitely wouldn't count on that just yet.

Lack of preapprovals definitely shouldn't discourage you from applying. I didn't have a preapproval for the CSP but I was approved. Your scores aren't super high but they aren't low either. I agree with the others: go for a Freedom card. If approved you've got a new credit card. If not, then at worse you might lose a few points on your FICO for the hp.

I think Chase does not pay any atention to their regular checking/savings clients. My daughter banks with them and earns well over $250K per year. When she got divorced she had to do a short sale on her house.

Have you asked for offers in-branch? I've never had a preapproval online, but in-branch I got the 300/500 offer to get the FU. I've been told by several sources that this means prequal, though when I saw the banker's screen at the time, it didn't say prequal. I suspect this is because I'm < 21, but the moral of the story is that there are good offers in the branches haha.

EDIT: That still wasn't an insta-approval. I only had my 6 month old Disco at the time, so the 30 day was not surprising.

OP update here.... I went ahead and app'ed for a Freedom card, while still showing no pre-quals, and got approved for a $500 initial line. it's a little discouraging to see comments in this thread about Freedom cards not getting CLI but I'm hoping this is a "foot in the door" with Chase.
