This is my first post as I just started with MyFico. I applied for the Marvel card before reading all of the posts that you need around a 680 TU for this card. I thought they were only going to pull my TU report which currently sits at 630 Fico 8 score, I just got an alert that says they not only pulled TU they pulled my Equifax report too (592). Now I took a HP on two credit reports. I believe I will be denied based on what I have seen on here but do you all think if I called and requested them to pull Experian also which is at a 650 I might be able to get a GW lower limit approval for this card?

Normally if Sync pulls 2 credit bureaus for an app it means you were probably borderline. I dont think you can offer to have them pull a specific bureau. They usually pull who they want to pull and thats usually the endword. Sync goes alot by what the computer says. Good luck on the app though

Sync isn't known to do recons because they love their AI robot for making decisions. Still, it never hurts to request a recon and see, but I haven't seen many data points about it.

There's absolutely no guarantee which CB will get pulled, and because there are nearly record high chageoffs happening right now, it's even likely that a creditor may pull two if they're concerned with the first one.

Do you have anything on your reports within your control that you can fix to get your scores higher? Is your utilization over 40% on any individual card showing a balance? Are you reporting a balance on more than one card? Do you have any chargeoffs reporting a balance due?

Thank you for your replies. My credit utilization for September is 21%, I am fresh out bankruptcy Discharge 07/28. My Equifax is so low because they haven't clearned the collections to read closed yet I am still fighting with them for 2 months now. My Experian report is clean I wish they would have pulled that one but oh well. I should probably garden for a while and let my current cards grow a little and see if my scores will go up.

Hi Victoria and welcome to the myFICO community!

Sorry to hear about your Marvel denial. Since that card is one of Synchrony’s flagships, it’s typically harder than most of their cards to qualify for, which you’re right, requires about 670+ TU FICO8. I myself, am a rebuilder as well so I can feel your frustration.
Best of Luck and may I recommend this thread for you?...

http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Bankruptcy/HOW-TO-From-BK7-discharge-to-700-in-24-months-or-less/m-p/1384075/highlight/true#M9218

Sorry to hear you didn't make it on this application for the Marvel Card, but as you work to get your scores improved, you can give it another try once your TU gets past 670/680 and you get your utilization down some. I'd like to get this card myself because of its bookstore/media rewards, but my TU is 659; I don't know my current EQ but the last time I got an update (from Lenny, before they stopped giving free EQ scores) it was 688, and my EX is 694. That being said, I need Care Credit more right now.

Some of the fine print on the Marvel credit card website has me curious. First it says purchases are subject to credit approval. What does this mean? Is this standard language that all credit card companies use? I admit, I haven’t been reading all the fine print in the other credit cards. Next ticket purchases cannot be made on line and a fee of $5 per ticket. What??? On the surface, it looks like a great card, but I don’t know about these stipulations.

I have learned some things about Sync B

1. They suck

2. They will close your accounts for returned payments

3. You need a 680 to have a fighting change. Some say preferably 710 for this card

4. They don't do recons

5. If you run a monthly balance and then pay if off suddenly they will cut your limit

6. If you are at a low limit for too long. They will just close your account for laughs and giggles and you wont know until you run your card in public and it is declined

7. They suck

Any bank can close your account for returned payments. I've had no issues paying down my limit as soon as it post. It is true Sync doesnt fo recons. If you dont use your card for a long time, yes they can balance chase or close account. Are there issues you having with your credit profile that is making Synchrony reduce their risk?. Not many banks out there will give increases in credit like Synchrony if you take care of your credit. They have their issues but again so do all banks.

Agreed with AJC. Also, I've been previously wanting the Marvel MC for this summer, but I've recently had to reassess since my TU FICO is stubbornly hovering in the mid-660's (with a brief blip upward in the 670's) for close to a year now while EX and EQ are both comfortably in the 680-690 range. From what I read, the Paypal 2% MC is easier to get and gives straight 2% across the board; my main concern is whether that old (closed) Bill Me Later account, since Synchrony just took over Paypal Credit, will hurt my app once I make it.
