Unless you really need the extra credit for a purchase, I would wait a year until recent INQ don't count. Any request for a CLI could generate a HP and on MR could make it seem you are looking for credit which could lead to AA.

If you need to make a major purchase and your CL doesn't cover it, I recommend that you call the CCC and tell them you need to do that and when you expect to PIF. They may require you to apply for a CLI but at least asking one cost you any FICO points. I also think joing and using a local CU is the way to go for CC and credit in general and they may also give free, no credit effect advise on if would would qualify for a CL.

I wouldn't ask for a CLI unless it was the last resort after trying these and other options you may find here.

Today I finally received the message that my cli for the Citi DC will be a soft pull, stated: "A credit bureau report will not be requested". Instant result " We regret that we cannot approve your request for a credit limit increase at this time"

I have had this card just over 2 months (9-5-2017), should I call backdoor number for recon or wait a bit longer to create some history with Citi?

I have been rebuilding my credit and once my scores where in the 700s, beginning August 2017, I applied and was approved for new bank cards (Discover, Amex, Citi and Chase). I now have several new accounts on my credit reports, inquiries, decreased my AAoA and score dipped some.

FICO8

EQ 703

TU 729

EX 720

Wait for the reason.. Guessing your reason is too many new accounts open reason. I hae gotten this on my costco recently as that is the only Citi card I have that I haven't gotten a CLI on being SP. I can't argue with the reason as it is true and sounds like to be the case with you. Some say it takes 6 months to get SP CLI verbage, but this isnt true I have had two other citi cards that both got SP CLI's within the first 2 months. Ironically the costco took 9 months to show up and was the only one denied due to many new accounts recently.

I would say just wait for 6 months of having the card and dont open new accounts if you want a CLI and go for it then. Recon won't do anything IMO other than a HP.

I don't know all too much regarding Citi and their CLI practices, but I would think that going for a CLI (SP) 2 months after opening your account is a bit aggressive. I have heard of some success at the 3-4 month mark, but most success is usually at 6+ months from what I've read. I waiting until my account reached 6 months before I went for my first Citi CLI.

After more than a year, Citi gave me a CLI on both my Simplicity and DC from $4,800 to $6,300.

I waited 6 more months to ask for another and they both said no.

My scores always range from 750 to 800.

Both of my last increases were January of 2017.

I have no more than 2 HPs with any credit bureau.

Update: Received letter in the mail today (11-25-17). Reason for cli denial was credit report shows too many recently open accounts. I will try again in 6 months and hopfully it will state no credit needed for cli.

I was and am on lower spectrum of things, ie low income, lots of accounts, etc. Took me 9 months just to get sp language. Almost a year before they gave me $600 auto and year and half to get my first actual increase. Some get cli very fast others not. You just have to see where you fall in another 4 months. Good luck, Citi is a unique puzzle for all
