AMEX BCE CLI - Denied

Well, I got this card back in June with a SL of $1k.

Used it a ton and PIF.

After the 61 days were up, I requested the 3x limit increase. Was denied due to account being too new, which we all know is bogus since the majority here get it after 61 days.

Was bothered by it, but got over it quickly since I had a new $11k Discover Card, $20k CareCredit Card, $10k Amazon Card and over $20k with PenFed.

Just tried for the 3x CLI since it’s been over 90 days since I was last denied.

I called the # on the Card and just followed the prompts.

Denied due to their ‘internal score’.

I’m slightly amused, yet annoyed as my using credit wisely and keeping it paid off isn’t rewarding me with AMEX.

Thankfully I have more credit than I will ever need, but I can’t help be puzzled as to why they keep denying me for such a low limit increase that I am asking for.

You might have fallen into their low limit bucket, just be more patient, the increases will come sooner or later.

Weird indeed Kid but like you said, you're covered with lots of credit elsewhere. Eventually theyll open up but for now just continue to work your whole profile and eventually Amex will be there for you

DW got her Delta Gold last June 2016 with $1K SL and EX8 in the 650s. She also got denied CLI on the 61st and the 91st thereafter. But all those times she’s been using her Delta as her primary with about $3-4K monthly spend (includes work reimbursable expenses) with us making weekly payments to recycle the CLs. She got an auto CLI in Jan of this year of another $1K bringing her CL to $2K. And in May Amex countered our CLI request to 2X bringing her CL to $4K. Still same monthly spends and 2-3x a month payments this time. About a month ago she app’d for the ED card and got an SL of $10K. Then a few days ago we asked for CLI on her Delta card and got approved instantly to $11K! Should have asked for $12K but didn’t want Amex to think that we’re gaming their 3X CLI system. Lol.
All this time her score never went up 693 which is her highest with EX currently at Util hovering in the 25% range.
I guess the whole point in all these is that if you really must have Amex CLI and they won’t grant you despite your good profile, then just swipe the living heck out of that card that they’ll be foolish enough not to grant you your CLI request.

Oh and by the way, I am so green in envy of my wife’s shiny Amex Delta and ED cards! Sometimes I stare at them like a jealous male concubine! Lol

At 181 days they'll give it to you. After that it will sky rocket every six months.
Don't be shy when the time comes. Asked for what you really want.

I was in your situaion they finally gave me a jump from $1000 to $3000 on the 10th month with them. Then I got 2 other Amex Cards with $3K limit each...

It’s only a matter of time.

I was declined at day 61 and 91 days after day 61. Within a week of that denial, they gave me a new card.

I used the heck out of that card for a month (cycling through the entire new credit limit and PIF). They auto-CLIed me mid-statement cycle (7th) on my previously twice declined BCE.

I’m glad you have plenty of other credit but it’ll eventually grow very well.

It seems that they do this a lot to people who have the $1k limit. I would try again in a few months, I bet you'll get an increase at that point.

I am about to give you a super unpopular opinion but, this is my only card that grows itself. I started off with a smaller limit than you and I never tried for the infamous AMEX 3X CLI that people seek. I just left it alone and it consistently got 1K increases by itself like every 4-5 months after opening it. This is with me never hitting the CLI button or calling. For reference, it wasnt even my go-to card and I would even let statements cut witha balance before paying off.

Obviously every person's situation is different and based off of their credit profile; but I just wanted to share my experience in hopes of showing you that there is still some hope for that CLI
