Apple Denied - Recon?

Which is the best number to recon? It seems folks have great luck calling them after a denial, just unsure which number?

Barclays: 888-232-0780 (Customer Care)
Barclays: 877-683-1400 (Security Dept)
Barclays: 866-205-5973 (credit analyst 24 hours)
Barlcays: 866-408-4064 (credit analyst MAY have limited hours)
Barclays: 866-663-6532 (Portfolio Credit, M-F 8 to 5 EST) - baller4life

Separately, I’ve never called for a recon. Tips?

Guy was very nice. Asked why there was a gap in credit history and then said that I had too many inquiries / new cards and that was a red flag for them. Annoying because I've never been late on a payment, and util is around 20% -- neither of which was mentioned.

When doing a recon is it worth calling back, or do they make notes? Meaning, I'll get someone new and they'll see that I just called, and puppet the previous person's response?

If I call back any tips to fire back on the new cards/inquiries? Most are at a zero balance, and some have next to nothing on them... and they're 9 months old. Shouldn't that show that I've been responsible? Would love tips on how to play this next call.

YMMWV (your mileage will vary) I have luck with their customer service and they just transferred me to correct dept. Others have luck dealing with overseas offices. If you dont like what you hear, try anther number or call back and explain to the person as to WHY you want the card. good luck and keep us updated.

Bascially what I picked up from other threads. I believe there was one guy that recon'd 14 times before he got them to approve. LOL

Will keep at it and report back!

2 calls in and no luck so far. The second rep did ask more questions, which had my hopes up -- although she wasn't as nice. Denied.

These calls are SUPER painful by the way. It's like pouring salt in wounds. Any tips around this line of thinking and just plowing through with confidence?

Does anyone know FOR A FACT if they keep notes from the calls? I can probably fudge something a little in the next call, but absoultely won't if they keep notes. Bueller?

They tend to keep notes. Why entertain the thought of "fudging something" where it appears the odds are not in your favor for an approval?

Aside from maybe a slight ego bruising, if your profile merits the approval then the UW folks would've provided that opportunity.

I reconned Uber through the 4064 number last month. Feel free to HUCA a few times, but I know from my second call that the first CA who approved me did keep notes.

So, I'm wondering how these people that try many times finally break through if notes are being made? Do they just get that one person that's like 'f-it' I'm going to approve this guy regardless of all of these notes?

BTW fudge is used in the lightest sense here. I app spree'd stupidly, but could say that I wanted all the inquiries to fall off at the same time, and for all of the cards to age equally... as an example.

Welp. Just called a third time. Some new data points for you guys:

They do definitely take notes (he said he was reviewing notes from the previous two calls)
He said you can only call twice maximum for a reconsideration and could do nothing

I thought the exact same thing and called back... then hung up. Was reading on some other sites you could end up on their permanent "sh1t-list."

I'll try again in a couple of hours and see if they say the same thing and report back.

Well, here's one simple fact. Not every individual that is declined for something similar results in an approval after calling 14 times (give or take - maybe 12 is the magical numer, 11? 15?). Otherwise, it'd be a well-documented "work around" for everyone who receivess a similar outcome. Sure, people can try and see what their options are as far as whether a declined application can get overturned. And, as with some lenders, Barclay's UW tends to have some leeway and may make exceptions on a case by case basis. It doesn't mean every case will result in an approval, even after 14 calls.

I mean, if you have the time to keep calling and getting the same answer, great. At some point folks do realize that getting declined isn't a bad thing.

LOL. I haven't called back yet. I think I'm just going to call it quits and go into the garden for a bit.

I do wish 14 calls guy would come out and give us the full scoop. I'll have to dig out that thread at some point.

If you're going to take the word of somebody on "some other sites" that you can end up on a permanent black list, you should consider taking the advice of the members here (in this thread and others) who have shared their own Barclay experience.

Hint: It's well-documented here that Barclays keeps notes of their recon contacts.

You are free to do what you want, but IMO your best bet is to take the Barclay rep(s) at their word, and give yourself some time to work on what they said was the problem, i.e. let your accounts age a bit.

TL;DR... The 14 recon guy you mention is certainly an anomaly even if that happened; come join us in the garden.
