3x opening limit or not?

hey, I have posted a similar question before and never got a definitive answer. have a friend that got a $1K bce and made it $6K by pealing $5K from her ed. its cli time, 2rd statement will cut tomorrow, both accounts pif. I think I should go for a $3K but I have read some stuff on doc where people have done credit line moves and where able to act on it. what is the truth to this, do I just stick with $3K or should I try something else? thank you

From everything I’ve read here about Amex. You can only get a 3X CLI on the original non reallocated limit.

Now that might not be the case after a couple years with Amex and then seeing your able to use the limits they give you responsibly.

But as always YMMV

lol wow you are a big help ha-ha - response like the whitehouse...if i ask for say $10K will they auto reduce it to 3 or what, based on what you have seen? thanks

I did something similar to my BCP. Was approved for $5000, but moved $5000 from my ED to make my BCP $10k. When it was CLI time, I went for $30k on the BCP and was got it. I say go for 3x on the $6k limit. Worst would happen is they say no. And I think you can change the amount until they give you and approval.

I’m not really sure if you were being serious about wanting a reply or if it was sarcastic.

A lot of people on here base stuff on what they have read on these fourms or the credit pulls database. Since I don’t have any first hand experience with reallocating credit lines on amex. I was trying to say, I’ve seen people claim this but who knows if it’s the truth. I wasn’t trying to give the impression I experienced it first hand.

Amex is known to counter offer. I have seen that first hand when a friend asked for a CLI after I advised him to do it. He asked for 40k and they came back with 33k.

I opened a 1k Amex BCE in October 2017. I had a suuuper thin file. Last month I called for an increase but was afraid to ask for 3k. I got 2500. What I asked for. Maybe I was overly cautious, but I was happy they increased it at all.
