AMEX BCE - CLI decrease?

Hi all,

I applied and was approved for the AMEX BCE about two years ago. After 60 days, I requested for a CLI and was approved for the 3x limit. However, a few months ago, AMEX decreased my credit limit either because of inactivity since I didn't use it often or my credit score took a hit from over overall utilization.

I have been working on clearing out my credit card debt and have made significant progress. Should I request for a CLI? Would this be a SP or HP as this point? I am trying to increase my ratio.

This happened to me back in 2015 on my Delta Gold. My UTL increased on another card and they CLD me. You would need to lower your UTL before asking for a CLI, IMO.

happened to me about a year ago with one of my Amex cards.

I asked about why through chat and was related to high utilization on my account. They stipulated that if I had it paid down to X% by a month they would look at reinstating my original CL. I paid it down, and my account moved back up as they said. Never had to ask for a CLI on the account

I would definitely get the utilzation down. Amex can be very generous, but they seem to prefer that you pay in full.

I’ve never posted always watched but they did this to my husband a few weeks after pre-approving him for the Platinum. He called and the rep told us his credit had decreased due to usage but we have about $1500 used and if we could make a large payment by months end our limit would be restored. (I read to call in the forums, maybe try your luck with a rep)

Was your utlization high on just Amex or everything else?

I've read of Amex doing decreases before on her. Kind of scares me because they started me at 10k when I only had a $500 CL with Cap1 on my reports.

Generally it would only affect you if it lasted two billing cycles though, right? What good is a $8K CL, if you need to use 1/2 for something but plan to PIF when the bill comes due. Yet they CLD you because of usage?

AmexLove -- If youre on a Platinum card and they are calling for a payment at $1500, you need to downgrade your card ASAP...

The payment they asked about was for the BCE. My platinum card is PIF every month before due date. We did balance transfer to BCE limit $7k had $3k on it. And they lowered it but his credit score has decreased a bit. We hadn't been making large payments since 18months no interest on the BT.
