Hi everyone,

Heres the quick story. I have no credit history except for 6 months as an autorized user and now I just got my first amex card. I am hoping to get a high end Chase card within the next 6-8 months but I heard they arent the easiest approval. I heard getting another decent limit card might be good before hand. Can anyone recommend a good card that can give me a nice limit that I have a decent chance of getting approved for? Maybe a lower tier Chase card, a quicksilver card, etc...?

Thanks!

You can always try the Discover, they're good with people with no credit history. Also, a Cap1, since they'll report to all bureaus. Just know that with Cap1, you'll get 1 HP on each bureau.

Chase will want you to have $5000 one a card already for CSP and $10000 for CSR. Discover and capital one both establishing friendly. Can you join Navy Federal?

OP - Chase is pretty consistent in wanting at least a year on a revolving account and they rarely seem to want to be the first to extend you a $5K Limit. Your odds sound exceptionally low of being approved for a Chase Card with the little credit history and data available. As previously mentioned, Discover is good about granting credit to borrowers with thin files as well as Cap 1. But also as previously mentioned, Cap 1 will pull all 3 bureaus. If NFCU isn’t an option, perhaps Citi or BoA. But I think your odds are better with the former 2 rather than the latter 2.

If it’s been 6 months or more since your Discovery denial and you are now at least an AU, your odds with them sound decent. They will likely start you with a very modest limit and may suggest a secured card.

@Anonymous, as others have mentioned, Chase will likely be happy to have you once your AMEX card becomes a year old. They're going to disregard the AU account. The other thing they like is three to six months of gardening (not applying for or obtaining new credit) before applying for one of their cards.

To get a CSP and its minimum $5,000 limit, they like to see "experience" with a similar limit on at least one other card. There's a good chance that if your AMEX isn't at $5,000 right now, it can be by the time it's a year old. Read the first few pages and the last few pages of The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide for details.

As you suggest, a lower tier Chase card may be the ticket to a higher tier card. But for lower tier cards, they still like to see the year of history on a card where you're the primary user. However, if you already have a Chase card in tow, they may feel inclined to grant the $5,000 limit even though your other cards havn't yet reached that point.

Getting another card before applying for Chase is a good idea. I think a good time to do that is anytime after your AMEX card shows up on your reports. That'll likely happen after your second statement. Getting a second card anytime within the next three to six months will give you more than enough gardening time for Chase.

Because you're seeing a FICO from AMEX, you'd now have FICO scores from all three bureaus. You can get your three FICO8s along with the three corresponding reports by signing up for a $1 trial at CreditCheck Total, then canceling within the trial period.

Having said that, I don't think your scores are going to produce any unpleasant surprises. As long as your payment history is perfect and your utilization is in check, the important thing is going to be the age of your profile.

Oh ok, Ill have to do some research and see what the best way to get another 5k limit card would be. Maybe since I have amex I'll be able to get a card like that from them.

As a rebuilder /new to credit you probably know 3 open lines of credit are ideal for FICO scoring. The 4-5th card you have will optimize this more in the long run but you would have to wait for those to age about 2 years. If trying for the chase after a year history on your other cards would allow for the Freedom/Freedom unlimited if you want UR point or Amazon/Hyatt if just trying to get in door. Also, chase being 5/24

(5 new cards in two years INCLUDING in many cases authorized user accounts)

@Anonymous wrote:

Hi everyone,

Heres the quick story.
