A little history as this is my first post,

First and Foremost hello all,

I just turned 21 and I've had credit for exactly one year. No Derogs or late payments I'm squeaky clean. My inquires are as follows

1.) Verizon for new acct
2.) First CC from UsBank (1.5k CL)
3.) Chase denial for the "Freedom" card
4.) AMEX card through USBank (5k)
Those were in the first 11 months of my credit history
Just this month I learned about reaping rewards and may have got carried away so this month I decided to apply for multiple cards
5.) Wells Fargo Cash Wise (2.5k)
Three days later
6.) Capital One QuickSilver (1k)
7.) Citi DoubleCash DENIED!

Not to shabby for a 21 year old but I got greedy
TU -730
EQ-715
EX-747

I've called three times to Citi first was a low level rep who didn't even want to talk until I receive my denial letter. Second representative much friendlier still seemed to be low tier representative said I was declined for too many inquiries told him I appreciated it and ended the call. Three days later today I called, from the executive office number spoke to a very friendly gentleman somewhat pleaded with him he put me on hold and said he would see what he could do. Came back and said that their system automatically declined me for too many inquiries on my Experian report politely told him thank you and ended the call with him as well. Now none of you have magic crystal balls but is there anyway I still have a chance if I stay persistent? Or am I beating a dead horse the only thing I can think of is finding overly nice representative or possibly writing a detailed letter of why I should be approved and maybe plead the case of just having them giving me the lowest credit line available to start out with! It was irresponsible to apply that many times that soon but it felt so good to keep getting approved and I was riding the excitement and not thinking logically!

Happy (late) 21st Birthday!

You've done great in a year. The Citi denial is a signal to slow down. Let your cards age a bit. Use them wisely, you'll get CLIs and raise your CL. Then, apply for that Citi card again... you'll get a higher SL.

Since you already spoke with the EO I don't know if it's worth calling back. If more of your inq were for utilities and whatnot, that's a case to be made, but I digress.

I was declined with Barclays in December, but successful on recon. Then all of two months later Chase sent me a targeted offer for the Freedom (300/500, lowest APR specified). As others have said, it's a sign to slow down a bit, but it's also about finding the right lender. You may do well with Disco and others who are less likely to pull EX. Besides, Disco will SP CLI, so your CL will grow with your file instead of taking a hit on your file

Hi OP
Keep in mind that there is a record kept of every single time you call (and plead your case). You don’t want to be known as the desperate credit seeker who can’t take no for an answer.

Like others have said, slow down. It may be time to garden and let the cards you do have age.

View this as a lesson-learned rather than your losing.

My suggestion/advice - stop calling, don't app for anymore cards and just use what you have, PIF, establish some history and let your accounts age. Credit seeking behavior as mentioned before is not something you want.

Really appreciate everyone's advice, I will heed it. In the meantime I'll scour these forums and get a firmer understanding on how this all works so I cant get burnt again. 3 cards in a week would of been flat out crazy anyway even if I were approved I woulda went for 4 and at some point my luck would run out. Good thing is my Verizon Inq and my first USBank Inq are about to fall completey off in a few months!

Well guys I couldn't take no for an answer ! Wrote a thorough email to a special email address for the top head of Citi EO sent it at 2 am as I work second shift sure enough got a call the same day once they opened called and apologized TO ME for not getting anywhere with the reconsideration line she was so nice, said she is sending my application and her referral to a UW for manual review! Fingers crossed. If they approve me I'm gonna call and thank her up and down if I'm denied I believe I exhausted all options and she gave me as fair chance as anyone can get said I would hear something in 21 days or less but she will push for an answer sooner than later !

Don't feel bad. I have tried to recon every single card I've ever been denied for and as of yet only ONE has worked.

I realize this doesn't help you and it's not advice LOL just telling you not to feel bad. And also kudos on getting the WF card AND US Bank. Those two are notoriously difficult unless you have a relationship with them already.

OP—While I can appreciate your tenacity, you do have to learn to accept the fact you won’t always get what you want. You have to let your current new accounts age, show a good pattern of responsible usage and payments, and then apply in the future. I would recommend no earlier than 6 months, more reasonably 1 year. Unfortunately too many people your age have never learned to accept defeat, regroup, learn, improve, and try again. Instead they are used to receiving at least a participation trophy. This is not meant as a knock on you, rather, this is the real world where credit is a privilege and not a right. Sometimes no matter how tenacious you are the answer will still be “no.” If you run this as a marathon and not a sprint and remember that each strike puts you closer to the next homerun, you’ll be fine. Best of luck and I look forward to reading of your successes and growth in the future.
