Applied for Chase Credit Card and got 30 day?

I applied for the starbucks credit card through chase, and received an email stating

We have received your request for a Chase credit card. We'll let you know our decision by U.S. mail. This could take up to 30 days.
Thank you for choosing Chase

Then a few minutes later called the automated robo lady to check my status and says 7-10 days instead..

is this a denial?

More than likely it is a denial, but not always. The 14-day message is usually an approval, but not always.

I'm hoping for the best result but having seen this same exact language in the past from Chase, it was a denial for me at the time but you never know until you get that letter or a call. If you are denied, they do have a reconsideration line (you can Google "Chase reconsideration line" for the number) you can call to plead your case for an approval. They will ask you a few specific questions about your credit accounts, etc... Crossing my fingers for ya!
