Amex Recon "In Progress"?

I stupidly applied for the new Amex gold the day it was released while I had a large payment on my exisiting Amex Everyday still pending and not yet posted to my account. This nabbed me a auto-denial due to high utilization. 12 hours later when my utilization dropped significantly, I called recon and they were super helpful and really nice. Since then (8 days now) the application status hasn't changed from "In Progress". Does anyone have any data points on how long these take? On the phone, they told me it would be about 48 hours, but we've obviously passed that mark now.

To be honest I am not sure. I have a Gold Card that is In Progress as well since Monday. I was also told it would take 48 hours. I called in around the 55 hour mark and was told it was declined and I would receive notification via email and mail. Today I haven't received anything and it still says "In Progress" lol. I am just as confused as you.

They might just be backed up with a ton of apps due to release day. Givem a call in a day or two. Good luck

Has the status changed on your application or is it still "In Progress" OP?

Not sure about OP Fin, but mine still says in progress, even after calling twice and being told it was declined lol. No email, no mail, nothing. Just says "in progress"

Still in progress!

I called and they told me it’s still under review.

My experian score is 698 presently, and I have an Amex with a $10k line of credit with 21% utilization presently. I’d think it’d be an easy approval!

@Anonymous, thanks for the DP. I suppose the online system status hasn't synched up with the final outcome of your application. Possibly some glitch I presume.

I had to call on another matter. Rep said they were swamped. Backup on multiple card offers, and delayed shippings on some cards.

I had the exact same situation as the OP. Applied last week and instand denied. Called for reconsideration, application sent to a excutive team and was told to wait for 3-5 days. Called on the 3rd day and was denied again. And it is still "In Progress" online.

I called back, they informed me it was still in progress and to keep checking my status online.

Same for me. Got denied for the Gold and went for a recon human review. Been "in progress" for about 10 days now.

I just realized my statement closes today - i'm unsure if this will carry any weight, but perhaps they're holding off on a approval/denial until it posts?

UPDATE: DENIED

REASON: Length of time I have been a member of Amex is too short

This is a bit disappointing, as I have been an authorized user on my husbands Amexs, and got an instant $10k approval for an Amex everyday in July. I was under the impression charge cards were a bit different!

I will wait until January and reapply, I really want to get this card as most of my spend is at restaurants/groceries.
