I second the Amex Gold Card if you want a good travels card. If not the Amex since the limited acceptance, then the other 2 I would consider would be the BoA Travel Rewards or the Capital One Venture.

So I really want to get a travel credit card since I do travel fairly often, and would love to collect those points. Since my credit history is limited (just under one year) and I've had a number of new inquiries and new accounts, I want to be selective and apply for something I have a good chance of getting approved for, and with a decent CL (5K+).

It seems like Chase, Citi and HSBC cards will be out of reach (right?). I was also denied for WF Propel a few months back.

So I've narrowed it down to the Uber visa, and the Penfed pathfinder (even though I would prefer to avoid AMEX due to limited international acceptance).

Here are my stats:

FICO 8 score: 720-730 range

Age of credit: 11 months, average 6 mo

HP's: 7 (TU)/8 (Experian)/12 (Equifax)

7 revolving accounts

Utilization: 7%

Income: 6 figures

No missed/late payments

Any suggestions?

Which card should I go for? Any tips or tricks to increase my chances?

Chase is not an option since you're over 5/24(5 cards in 24 months).

Barclays(uber) is said to be inquiry sensitive especially to people new to credit so i don't rate your chances very high with them either.

I can't say about citi. Also does HSBC have an actual travel card?

Also if you're going with AMEX then try for an actual AMEX since the new gold is pretty good and they approve charge cards pretty easily.

Venture would be my choice if you need $5k or more and have less than great credit and a lot of it.

Did you check prequals ?

BTW, Uber is very stingy. If you got denied for Propel, you probably will get denied for Uber or a very low limit.

GL!
