Discover CLI?? :(

Hi, know I'm late to the party, but had a Disco CLI question.... I have had my Disco card for over a month now. I know it's probably way too early, but, I applied for a CLI online and was denied. It said I would get a notice in the mail on why I was denied. Noooooo problem, maybe I applied to soon. My question is, when I go back the the "credit line increase" tab, it still allows me to apply for CLI again?? Don't they regulate how many times you can apply? I would think they would disble the tab or app until you were able to apply again, no? Thanks

No they don't disable you can apply 20 times a day lol.

Yes 30 days is way too early , let it age atleast 3 months then you may get lucky. Disco is a hard nut to crack sometimes their CLI policy makes zero sense.

For new cards, the hard minimum is 90 days.

One time I clicked the button within a week and they immediately told me they need more time to assess how I did with the first CLI they gave me. They gave me an auto increase a few months later though.

Definitely hold off a bit before applying for another CLI.

Discover is one of those companies that will let you ask for a CLI whenever you want.

People have been trying to "crack the code" with Discover for a while but it's just YMMV with them.

Discover is in danger of killing more trees than building houses from wood. Why they won't get denial letters online is just silly would save them a TON of money

Oh wow! Ok... They do give auto CLI's? With my Chase FU card, they gave me a big auto CLI after 4mnths. I did use the heck out of it for those four months! LoL. Ok...Will hold off another 2 months!! FYI, When I applied for the card, I didn't even realize you couls pick the IT rewards card of your choice (ie, travel, cash, etc..). I though the IT card was one card and the rewards were what they were. Silly on my part, I know. I filled out the IT Chrome app. It's a decent card with the @% cash back for a year. Thanks again everyone for your input. Don't even know what I would do without this forum!!!

Have you tried for them at exactly 90 days, or have you attempted them at intervals < 90 days, just without success?

Seems like I'm on a 3-month cycle for CLIs. Got my first auto-CLI of a whopping $200, and then an additional $300 with the luv button within a day or so. I tried the luv button monthly and just got another $300 at 3 months (was declined the previous week, I think I requested a couple days too soon). I then called the 800# and asked for more and got another $700. They told me they would consider me for a larger increase but it would cost a HP. I took my $1000 and thanked them kindly.

I'll probably continue to ask monthly and just be cognizant of the actual date I received my last one, rather than relying on the 1st of the month when my account updates and a new score is pulled. Good luck.

Hey,

Yeah, you requested for a CLI too early, they didn’t even have time to close one statement, haha! Give it at least 3 months before asking for CLI and also, I’m not too sure if Discover CLI requests creates a HP so be careful. They just gave you an initial credit line, they wouldn’t increase it just because, you kinda need to prove that you can handle your initial CL before they make any decision regarding a CLI

The "hard minimum" is not 90 days. There might not be a hard minimum. Maybe it is 3 calendar months must occur (endpoints included), as was suggested to me. I don't know. I do know I got a new card CLI at 75 days as detailed here.

OP, in my experience, Discover will do pretty well on giving you increases, especially around the 3 or 4 month intervals. But, as usual, ymmv. I have seen some people that for whatever reason, struggle to steadily increase their limit with them.

What comes out of a CSRs mouth doesn't have to be factual or accurate. It's well documented that CSRs are notoriously misinformed. To verify this, all one needs to do is call 3 different times and ask the same question to 3 different CSRs. I'd be shocked if anyone got the same answer all 3 times.

People have received Discover CLIs in under 90 days and on established accounts there have been reports of multiple CLIs as close together as 21 days apart. You won't find a CSR that will tell you that, but it has been documented on this forum.

Some people have reported getting a CLI at 2 months. I got mine on both cards around 3 months. All others I request monthly after the statement cuts.
There are no rules with Discover. I do agree that the denials are way too much kindling and I don't understand why they don't just put it in a secure inbox in our account or something. Anywho, be patient and you'll hopefully get an increase in a while.

Noone knows exactly the secret sauce to discovers madness.. That said... It *is* pretty well known that they want to see at least 3months/statements (this is up for debate whether its either/or/both) and there are good examples of an auto-cli a few days after the third statement if they like what they see... If not. thats a good time to try to hulksmash.. The other thing is.. realize when they pull your report for the in-app fico.. and please please save the trees and dont go CLI happy on the button.. at least wait for the new pull before asking again

Cap1 is good in this regard -- I've got an online mailbox stuffed with them. No tree chopping for them.
