I apply for today for citizen bank clear value mastercard , and I receive the following message:

"We are currently reviewing your credit card application. Upon approval of your application, we will send you your new credit card, a Credit Card Agreement and a Privacy Notice within 10 business days".

I have been denied or chance of approval?

They're reviewing your app. You haven't been approved or denied yet. If approved, you'll be sent everything within 10 days.

Fwiw I received that message when I applied for the 1.8% cash back plus card earlier this month. Called in about five business days later to find out I'd been denied, first denial ever.

I'll give it one more shot sometime mid-to-late '19. I'll certainly wait until I get an offer from them this time.

I'm happy to share.

First, and probably most importantly, CSR over the phone as well as rejection letter only cited a four year old baddie as reason for rejection. Of course, lenders can say whatever they like here, but I still found it interesting as I'd always imagined banks would give you a list of reasons.

In any case, the letter revealed they pulled Equifax, but didn't specify the score so I couldn't figure out which EQ they pulled.

EQ is my strongest file, when I apped I was at 716 FICO 8, EQ bank card 8 score was at least 722. Income 85k. UTI 11%. 92.4 k CLs across 16 accounts. 5 EQ INQ's last 12 months, all within last six months.

I *REALLY* wanted this card. Though Citizens does have a presence in my state, they are not in my market, which is dominated mainly by Huntington and Chase. I absolutely love their branding, it looks both slick yet simple to me. Their website and mobile app, however, is a hot mess. But it works.

Were there branches near me, I would have just waited and apped in branch, asking beforehand if I had any preapproval. Evidently, this is a thing with Citizens.

what state are you located in? what was the highlight of applying for this card? (if huntington/chase dominated banks around you as you say).
