OP, Barclays has tightened some of their UW as of late. So, similar to Chase's timeframe aspect, either "too many" new accounts or inquiries in a 12 or 24 month period would apply.

Since it's profile dependent, there's not a specific number of either as a quantifier (unlike Chase 5/24) since some individuals would be able to clear those hurdles while others won't.

Hi all,

I applied recently for the Barclays AAdvantage Aviator Business card and was given one of those neutral pages saying they needed more time to decide. Then, in the mail I received a letter saying I was denied due to "the number of cards opened in the last 24 months." I thought Chase was the only one who cared about the number of accounts opened. Does Barclays have a similar rule I wasn't aware of? Thanks!

I don't believe they have 5/24 but they are a jealous lender.

Better to be denied now than approved, SP'd and shut down..

It's due to too many accounts from all lenders.. How many new accts do you have in last 12 months?

Sorry for the denial..

Thanks everybody, that's good to know! I guess 14/24 doesn't really appeal to most lenders Gonna just have to wait I guess

They have a 6/24 rule now. You won't get approved with 6 or more new accounts in the last 24 months.

That's actually just collective DPs from various sources citing conversations with UW, but it is not an "official" rule citing that count as an absolute #.

Unlike Chase where 5/24 can sometimes be overcome via branch pre-approvals, Barclays doesn't have a similar option.

Lots of individuals have been able to circumvent that hurdle. For instance, I had lots of new accounts and inquiries before getting approved when said restriction came to be known/applied. Plus, I did not need to have the application reconsidered, it simply went into pending and eventually got approved.

For the Uber visa, they only denied me because of not having credit cards for 2 years or longer. Told me I should apply in March or April, when my disco hits 2 years of payments. Hopefully that holds true, since that was just 2 days ago!

The only card I have heard where they have a pretty ironclad 6/24 rule is the Arrival+. Other than that though, they are still pretty strict with inquiries and new accounts, and have gotten even more so recently. It's definitely not just Chase who cares about it. Just because there's not a firm 5/24 rule in place doesn't mean the lenders take kindly to credit seeking behavior, and in the past couple years things has definitely gotten tighter across the board.

Unfortunately, for those of us who frequently open accounts and/or have a lot of inquiries, the options continue to dwindle. It's really best to space out applications and inquiries few and far between at this point IMO.

@Anonymous, it was the business Aviator. I had considered the Uber CC, but the AAdvantage miles twisted my arm instead 😁

I think its been established many times over that Barclay's probably the tighest lender when it comes to inquiries. They're so inquiry-sensitive, they're basically 1/24 lol. Any application in two years will send your application into review.
