State Department FCU Application

App'd for an Account with SDFCU on line and got the 'thank you for applying we will review your application' page after I completed the app.

I initially went to see if I could qualify for the secured CC they offer but wanted to become a member also so I did both.

After a couple hours I decided to check my status so I went to the SDFCU site (since they never sent me an email) and used the "check application status" button.

Entered the info they asked for and hit "submit"
INSTANT APPROVED for $2000.00 CC
But
REFERRED for Account.
Crazy... but I'll take it! (I'll call them Monday to get a solid confirmation on the CC) and ask what else is needed for the opening of an Account.

I'll keep you posted, I started this topic because finding info on CCs and approval scenarios with SDFCU is kinda tough here and not as talked about as other CUs.

Congrats! Be aware SDFCU gives conditional approvals, which can be misleading.
Their apps are 100% manually reviewed, unless something has changed.
Hopefully your approval sticks.

Exactly! That's the tricky part of all this - and it doesn't help that today is Friday... we will see. If the $2k doesn't end up going through I'll try a recon for the Secured Product like I originally app'd for.

I’ve been in this identical situation very recently. I apped for the SDFCU secured CC and the page displayed “ instant approved 2k”, on a Friday. Monday morning the status updated to pending and ultimately led to a decline.

Hopefully your approval sticks, GL! It does say on the app status page that “any approvals are subject to a final review”. So I suggest you remain very skeptical until monday.

I know (I was pulling for you while reading your experience with SDFCU) before I posted this thread.

Hopefully 2019 finds them willing to do make history 😉 . If not I'm ready to keep them on the phone until I get that secured CC like I wanted in the 1st place. I'll let you know how it goes.

My experience: I sent in my membership application (just that, not CC app) by snail mail back in April because their site didn't support "state" code MP (Northern Mariana Islands), and never heard back. I think there were probably too many recent Chex pulls on my file as I was on a CU membership application spree at the time. Hopefully I'll be able to get my foot in the door this year.

*UPDATE*

So Saturday afternoon my [SDFCU CC app] went from IA to 'Pending' (not surprised at all) as others have stated.

My [Account app] is still in the 'Refferred' status.

I just want the darn Secured Card! lol (fingers crossed)

I'll let you all know how it goes as I suspect the SDFCU UW's will be all over the weekend apps when they arrive to the office.

Received an email message from SDFCU stating that the Account Request was 'Denied' (Guess I'll clean up things on all reports and try again 01/2020) I'm going to give them a call and see what the exact reason for denial was. (This way I can clean that up specifically)

CC still shows 'Pending'.

Now it's just a matter of time before the CC shoe drops 😳. I'll keep you posted.

Once this ordeal is completed I'll post my exact credit position, baddies etc. Ovrt in the 'Rebuild Section'.

I applied for membership twice with them each was denied due to 'unable to verify identity' even uploading what they request for documentation. I was told "Come to a branch.", like I am flying halfway across the country just to join? I then researched a little on the internet after the denials and found some posts in this forum noting they are super uptight about addresses matching between the application and documentation.

I wasted two hard pulls trying to join, like another poster mentioned in this thread there are plenty of other financial institutions who aren't as conservative and make it way easier to do business with them.

Well my SDFCU CC Application is still showing "Pending" 😑 I'm thinking the UW's are swamped and haven't really pulled anything yet or I would've gotten that 'decline' by now. (Just found out theres a chex systems ding from three years ago on my report.)

That is why I couldn't get in with them. Uggg! I've ordered my CS report and will pay that account in full.

Thanks for the info as well everyone, I'll be ready in mid 2020 for a re-try with SDFCU.

Find a CU that doesn't use Chex system. DCU SPs EQ, not sure if they pull Chex.

So I got an email from the CC CL from SDFCU asking that I call them to answer questions regarding my CC request.
(Mind you it's been pending now since the 4th of Jan)

I called them this morning and the CL Rep told me they have everything but were just waiting on my savings account info.

😑 If you see my previous update you'll know that a Chexsystem dept from 3 years ago is keeping me from joining.

So I asked how long my current app is good for the CL told me for about 30 days. As you can imagine I am now scrambling to get this CS debt paid lol.

But the irony of this whole ordeal is something else...soooooooo close!!!

I'm hoping they (SDFCU) will take a paid receipt showing the debt paid off my CS report 🙄. If I can pull this off it will be amazing lol.

I'm planning to apply for their 2% cash back card before my next foreign trip and am curious how long it will take to get approved.

SDFCU is a local community union--every one is nice but it's not an efficient institution. Between the application and receipt of the card, expect 3-4 weeks. You have an option to pay for expedited shipping but the approval could still time. If you are not a member, I'd recommend going into a branch with ID, funds for the initial deposit and POI if required for the CC app.
