Here's the scoop Myfico...

A new guy here posting because I am driving myself crazy and would love some input!

Over the past year I have done some major damage control in regards to my life and more so my credit scores. In November 2017 my Ex FICO was 486. In early 2018 I was all about Credit Karma with low 500s and then something magical happened. I stumbled upon the MyFico forums and well... lets just say my life changed.

I was able to get a lot of derogatory information removed. School loan 120 day lates post consolidation, 3 collection PFDs and 2 Au accounts with lates involved all removed. I just payed my last charge off that was affecting my utl and woke up today with a 46 point bump on EX, 30 TU and 35 EQ. (apparently going from 64% utl to 2% is a big deal..

I have a Cap One Platinum card that I pc'd to a qs and got the $100 cli on my 4th step. I also have a Discover secured that should be graduating in 2 months.

What I am getting to here is that I have done all this with the help of MyFico. Just passively reading here at the forum has changed my life. Now my scores are in the mid 600s.

EX - 622

TU - 653

EQ - 643

My next objective is to open an account with NFCU. I have 2 cards right now and would like a 3rd before heading to the garden for a year. I feel like Navy would really be the most optimal and logical choice as I am in this rebuilding mentality and am overly vigilant in regards to my spending habits now. Currently with $900 in available credit and would love to have a chance at a legit card with a decent SL. I do have 2 - 3 year old collection accounts on my TU still that I haven't managed to get a PFD(Navy pulls TU for CCs and I am hoping thier age will help me out) I am an Army vet so that wont be an issue...for me its just a matter of when to pull the trigger. I tend to second guess myself with my scores and at times lack confidence with them as well. From what I have read my scores should be more then adequate and I have decent file with an AAOA at 8 years. Just a bit nervous to pull the trigger. Any insight would be extremely helpful as I navigate the next objective in my credit journey!

Cheers

IMO Navy kinda does what they want. Its no telling with them. Even on this board we have seen people with 700+ scores denied and people with low 500s approved.

I applied at about 650 in September and was denied for Car refinance, Flagship CC, Go Rewards CC and CLOC . I then got a $500 secure card with them and used it for 2 months, paying it off often. Reapplied for Flagship was approved for $10k and then $15k CLOC.

Navy is one of those YMMV kind of companies but from what I see they do value relationships. Treat them right and they will treat you right.

Thanks for your service, hopes this helps.

There are profiles that arent so good that get approved and some profiles and scores that are on the upper end of things and they get denied. Like you said, they do value relationships and the internal score holds alot of weight, so it seems, with decision making.

I'm still on the fence.. althougth- worst case scenario I end up with a secured card and in a similar situation as you.
First off thank you for your service. I started with Navy in October 2018. At that time applied for a cash rewards and was denied. I moved all banking from local credit union to Navy in late October and applied again in December for a Platinum and was approved for 15000. I have since changed it to a Cash Rewards.
At time of approval my fico 9 was 612. My internal NFCU score was 316. Hope this helps.

I would thank you for your service, but then you'd thank me for mine. I'd have to thank you again, which will prompt you to thank me, and the never ending cycle would continue.

Here's my condensed DP's from my NFCU credit card application from this passed November.

1- I applied and was insta approved for $1,000.00.

2- I sent a secured message to NFCU disagreeing with my initial CL, basically I asked for an unusual recon.

3- They respond stating that the amount I was approved for is the maximum they can at the present time.

4- I respond back telling the truth "I already have three $500 cards, and I'm not interested in a fourth low CL card. What happens if I dont activate?"

5- 20 minutes later I get a reponse with an apology, and the final determination that my initial CLI will be $15,000.

As it stands now, my usage on that card is 28% and I use it a lot since its zero APR for me until April. I've combined my Cap1 Platinum, and QS1 into one card, got approved for a Discover for $1500, and killed one of my bucket cards completely. I was also approved for an auto refi (11.78% interest down to 5.89%), and a $5k CLOC with them. I'm sitting on 3 statements, but only at 71 days. Still have 20 to go before I apply for a second NFCU, and get the CLI on my green card. What is said above is totally true- NFCU does things their own way and use credit reports as more of a small window to look through. My thread on the above DP's is still on here if you want the full breakdown, but I wouldnt have much fear at all with giving NFCU a shot. Good luck, and keep us posted........and thanks for your service.

@noximus03

I had to a good laugh at your thank you circle. I agree it would be never ending. On that note - I do have to say thank you for a thorough reply! I did read up on your prior posts and I am feeling alittle more confident after reading about your outstanding success post recon. Im feeling similar with my Cap One card as I dread it being bucketed for years to come and I really want to just hit the 5k+ mark and relax for a bit to demonstrate my new found creditworthiness... I've heard it alot but just getting in the door with them and a second card goes a long way. We will see soon in my case..I'm calling in the morning unless someone has some insight that it's better to app online.. havent heard that so the phone is where youll find me!

I think tomorrow is the day for me to pull the trigger.. Ill update after it happens.

And thank you for your service!

UPDATE: apparently the inital rep that I spoke with put down the wrong email and I was never able to receive the secured link to send the verification documents! So a week later I ended up going to the closest branch which is an hour away... turns out it was well worth it.

A representitive there opened up my savings account and helped me through applying. I was approved for the NF CR $7800 with a pretty good interest rate which is half of my two other cards!!

Well worth the trip and Navy rocks.

@Anonymous wrote:

Cheers

Congrats on your improvements. This place has just the info you need.

Good Luck!
