Hey everyone!

Way back in the mid-90's, I went through a bankruptcy and stopped with credit cards after that. Two years ago, I started to build my credit from the ground up. I've heard about blacklisting. My question is this...is there a way to find out if you are blacklisted, as well as to research who I bankrupted way back then? I remember Chase was one of them, so they are out of the picture now. But I don't want to waste any hits that don't need to be used.

Also, is there a way to be un-blacklisted? I had a Nordstrom card back then and I'd kinda like to get another Nordies card.

As always, THANK YOU for giving the newbie a clue! :-)

AmEx comes to mind when I think of members here who have

included them. Chase will give you a chance, but you might have to call for reconsideration. (Since you filed back in the mid 90s, I assume your BK has long been off your reports). Reconsideration is not the worst thing in the world - you just have to be prepared to answer questions from the analyst (my experiences with Chase have been quite pleasant).

I think YMMV on this one. Truth is, you never know if you're still on a blacklist unless you apply. Some recommend using prequalification on websites. If you get a solid APR offer, then it may be likely you will be approved.

If you aren't sure who you included in your bankruptcy, you can look at your original filing. If there are banks that are no longer around (i.e., Providian, Fleet Bank, etc.), you can do a web search and find out who those banks have morphed into.

HTH.

American Express
Barclays
Chase

You can get back in with any CC creditor NOT listed above that are IIB with the right profile and at the right time.

Based on multiple DPs posted here on myFICO, with $0.0 paid back, Amex forgives at the 10 year mark the earliest. Chase is now at the 10 year mark as well based on DPs the past 2 months. Used to be 7 with recon although a couple of persons here did it in 5 year I think with an Epic and legendary recon (Pizza1 I think is one of them? Pls correct me if I’m wrong). There isn’t any DP here yet as far as getting back in with Barclays after IIB.

My advise? App away with Amex as they won’t HP you if you’re Blacklisted. Been doing that once a month just to see if I’m off yet. Just stay away from those 2 (Barclays and Chase) for now unless you have zero derog on your profile (BK off) and scores of 700+ across all CRAs and are WILLING to lose a HP!
Best of luck and please keep us posted if you ever decide to app.

Also to add, if you app with Amex and get declined with a HP then that means you’re OFF their BL and just don’t have the right profile to warrant an approval so somewhat a good sign. And Barclays if I’m not mistaken also Don’t HP if you’re on their bl but I’m not 100% sure on that one (Barclays) maybe someone can chime in to confirm.

I had negative histoey with Barcays back in 2008 when I closed my Frontier card with them. Above posters are correct they wont HP you if you're blacklisted which I myself seem to be, interesting data point though is that it is true, if your profile is squeaky clean they can overrule it as was the case with me when I applied for the Arrival + WEMC, I applied but immediately got declined, undeterred I called up recon till I was connected with a really nice lady who commended me on my profile and score and approved my application on the spot, the interesting part about my negative history with Barclays is that originally I was told closing it down I could reapply later and simply pay off the balance and the bank would see I had a good payment history, unfortunately it was incorrect and Barclays saw it as a bad thing.. Had I known about this I would have never accepted their payment plan and paid off the balance in it's entirety the way I did and proceeded to pay off the card the difficult way I did have to explain to the recon lady over the phone that I wasnt sure why I was declined so suddently when in fact I had paid off the previus card with them in full (which she did verify and see) So in a word YES you can be approved after you been black listed and recon will approve if your profile warrants it, unsure on time frame but mine has to be nearing 10 years now from the original closure so im not sure if Barclays is going by when the card was paid off in full or the original closure of the frontier card.

@Anonymous wrote:

Did they close your old Barclay's account because of late payments and then gave you a low payment plan?

I currently have a low payment plan with them due to some late payments two years ago. I was just curious if they will ever let me reopen the account.
