HELP!!!!! NFCU locked out for eligibility

on the phone now...

logged into nfcu and accts error msg..

called and they said (after three weeks) not eligible....

two CC with BT --- need to be repaid....havent gotten cards yet....

DH isnt eligble either since signed up under me.....

so all INQ and 2 CC -- even transfered my direct depoist to go in tomorrow...... ALL POINTLESS!!!!!!!

what should i do?????

Are you eligible for membership or not? Reason I ask is NFCU doesn't play around if they find out you aren't eligable for membership.. Best of luck on your outcome.

Agreed...

As I recall the OP said he/she applied for membership because they worked on base like 10 years ago? I wanted to say from the beginning that seemed a bit "off."

At any rate, I'm not eligible for membership either... only have 1 family member in the military and they are with USAA. Good thing is though NFCU isn't the only CU in the USA and I love my BECU.

Ohhhh dear!! Navy Fed Security don't play. Website has been down for everyone all day. Acct error. Someone actually told you that you are not eligible????

Welp. I didn't realize, when they approved my application, and my husbands, AND two credit card applications --- over a three week period ---- that they would come back and say I am not eligible.

At any rate --- I just got off the phone -- -because both of my husband's grandfathers were Active Duty, both are deceased.....They said there isn't really a verification process for that so my husband will be eligible, and therefor me so all should go thru

Gave me a fax number to fax ID, SSN, and Electric bill, since nearest bank is over 100 miles away.

Hoping this all works - because I was at my desk balling my eyes out on the phone.

I was married to active duty and worked on base. But that was 2004-2005.

I dont recall the application telling me I HAD to be currently employed -- especially since it said, if not currently DOD, type employer here...or whatever.

I would love to get in with NFCU .. I worked at the DOD as a civilian contractor about 8 years ago.. Could of got in then, but not now.. Kinda sucks.. I would love a juicy 20k credit cc and loc.. Anyways if you husbands grandpa's were in the military you should be ok.. You just went about it the wrong way imo... So ya, it is going to take some working out to get fixed... I am not to familiar with them other then stated they don't play games. Best of luck regardless on the outcome as it sounds like you were really counting on them for that BT.

Yeah I don't know if I would call their verification process "BULLS*T" as the OP deemed it... LOL

I'd love to get in with NFCU. Both parents were military, neither retired though. Grandfather was military back before it was called the Air Force... but he's deceased. NFCU's screener told me I wasn't eligible.

My brother in law just got out of the Air Force on disability but he's with USAA. Other than that, I see no other options so I guess I'm stuck with BECU.

I know its not Bull, I was just freaking out at the moment...

the lady on the phone told me my husband is eligible with both his grandparents being military/deceased.

That is our only in at this point and he is faxing info to them now.

I am PRAYING this all works out -- I have already gotten checks for the account, switched my direct deposit, approved for two credit cards, and was in the middle of reconning one. (which may be the reason all this came about).....I was also thinking of refiancing our car thru them.....

I sent all documents through secured message, and husband is faxing the same paperwork over to the security department. They just want our ID verified. They wanted us to go into a branch, but we are too far away.

I feel so stupid for doing the whole membership ass backwards.....but I am hoping it works.

Of course the security department closes at 4pm Eastern time...so I will have to wait til the morning to find out anything.

Also, if they locked my account before my work could submit my direct deposit -- it may get kicked back. They didn't show anything for tomorrow, and neither did my old bank....

Ugh. I knew all this good luck/approvals etc was too good to be true. Figures something like this would happen I just feel so stupid now....

Hoping it gets all worked out. NFCU doesn't play around when it comes to membership. When I joined over the phone last year, and the rep asked me how I could be eligible, I told him that my dad is retired officer with the core, and government. He put me on hold and few minutes later came back and said... Ok you're in! I asked how he knew, and he said he did a cross match of my SSN to the DOD and it came up a match thru my Dad. He said I'm in for life, and that's the most strenuous form of security matching to verify.

Don't feel stupid. You're human. You just got excited at the approvals. Anyone would. Navy Fed will give you awesome credit lines but you can best believe their security team is working behind the scenes to make sure you are eligible.

The only way I even knew about joining NFCU is through these forums. My grandfather was retired Air Force but has been deceased since 09. After reading all the horror stories about their security department I made sure my dad had his DD214 in case they came calling. I remember when the new account rep called and offered to help me set up DD I said I was going to hold off moving my money there until my dad found the paperwork. The rep called me back later that day and assured me I was good to go and I had been verified. They did ask for my grandfathers rank, retirement info, etc when I was joining. Apparently they have some sort of system to verify or something.

OP, I hope everything works out well for you. Navy is a great CU.

Who wouldn't?

Going by the posters on these forums NFCU is a slot machine that just spits out $10k-$25k CC's and LOC's at anyone who qualifies for a membership.

I myself find it a bit odd that someone (not me) can come out of a Ch 7 BK and get a $15k CC from NFCU when the highest CC they had previously was $3k.

Seems strange to me... My CU BECU made me wait 6 months after my Ch 13 before they gave me a nice CC.

Yeah - we faxed and secure messaged everything they asked for....

By then the security department was already closed.

I did just get an email from NFCU welcoming me to bill pay....so idk what that means if my account is unlocked or what.

I just hopw everything works out because I am super bummed right now

Prior military service does not make you or your husband eligible.

I was thinking the same thing... because my parents were both in the military but didn't retire... and I was told I wasn't eligible.
