AmEx Gold Skymiles approval chances?

I have been looking to get a new rewards credit card since my current card is with a credit union and doesn't have the best customer service. I have recently received several emails and letters in the mail about the Gold Skymiles card from Amex. The letters say I am preapproved, but I am hesitant to apply for a couple of reasons:

-Currently I only have one open credit card

-I have less than a year of credit history

However, my FICO score is a 725 and I have never missed a payment, been sent to collections, or anything of that sort. I also don't carry a balance. I really want to apply for this card because I'm about to begin a new job that will have me flying with Delta frequently. But, I also don't want to apply if it's likely that I may just get denied.

The gold delta is typically one of the easier Amex cards to attain. As stated above, if you're skeptical just check the Amex prequal page. They're usually pretty reliable.

Thanks for your response! If the letter said I was pre-approved do I need to check the prequal page? Just wondering if those are separate or if they are the same.

That would depend on if Amex sent you the letter or Delta, checking the pre-qual page is not going to hurt your score in anyway.
If you get the message "you are pre-qualified" then apply, it's not 100% but the majority are approved.
If you get the message "It's easy to extend your membership" then it would be up to you if you want to cold app and see what happens.
Your FICO score is more than healthy enough for Amex they like a score above 670.
If you do apply and you don't get an instant decision, don't panic, most apps these days seem to go to the verification dept for further checks.

I think what they’re saying is, if you’re iffy about your (paper) pre-approval, you can check your pre-qual online to ease your mind about applying.

You can can enter the info from the letter you received or start fresh with your personal info.

I was approved at the beginning of the month with a 646 EX Fico 08, SL $1k.
