I was recently approved for the SPG Amex (before it was closed to new apps last month). Since then I applied for 2 cards and was denied via soft pull. I decided today to apply for the Delta Amex due to the sign up bonus and the app was cancelled and the reason stated “It is our policy not to approve those who we have recently declined.” Has anyone experienced this and is it worth a recon attempt? Also how long should I wait before the previous apps fall off and I could apply maybe again? Thank in advance! Don’t want to rock the boat too much as I was kinda surprised I got approved for the SPG in the first place.

Given your past history with them, and only being offered a $1000 SL on the SPG, I would say that they are treading lightly with you.

Give it some time, build up some positive equity with them.

Thanks for the advice! That’s what I was thinking. So far I’ve charged and paid $2,300 on the card. Increased my scores up to an average of 675 but still waiting for my other accounts to report 0 balances. Hopefully after 2-3 months of similar spend and payments they’ll take another look. It was worth a shot at the 60k miles though.

Was blacklisted 10+ years. Finally one day about two years ago they let me back in. Grabbed a Platinum charge and an Everyday card. The Everyday was $1000. Hey, I screwed them, so I wasn't complaining about the limit. I was chasing the SUB on both the Platinum and ED so I did like you're doing now, and used the hell out of it. Never carrying a balance, making multiple payments, etc. 61 days later I got my 3x CLI. Shortly after, I apped for the BCE and was approved for $7,100. So in less than 3 months I went from the blacklist to 10K of credit. My last Amex app was the SPG a few months ago. That was an approval with a $16,100 SL. (not sure why AMEX likes to start me off with the odd $x100 limits, but its what it is)

I also have the Gold card which is my go-to card, so it gets used heavily. Moral of the story is that it can be done! You'll have to prove yourself, but once they're comfortable with you, you'll be fine.

Thanks everyone for the advice. To answer a few of the questions you all brought up. I applied via the link from the Delta site so didn’t get the “expanding your membership” notice. I called in today and the rep said to wait 30 days from the latest denial to reapply. Luckily these were soft pulls so my inquires are still only 1 for me Ford Motor Credit Jan of 18 and the SPG in Feb of 19 so happy about that. I’ll keep utilizing my current card and will hopefully have better luck in a few months. @ Fi-Fico-Fum your story gives me a lot of hope. Hopefully I’ll have a similar story soon!

My situation was similar to you. Burned them years ago, was blacklisted 10 years. Recently got back in, with a Gold Card (don't need the revolving, so didn't apply for anything else). I notice you have both Gold and Platinum. Did you apply for both at the same time, or at two separate times? do you know if, under these circumstances, you can upgrade?

Update:
After reading a few of your responses I decided to pull the trigger again today and apply. I got the “we’re reviewing your application” pop-up. I decided to call in and after a few verification questions she told me I was approved! Only another 1k limit but happy to get the 60k skymiles bonus. I figured I had nothing to lose as it was another soft pull. Now to garden for a few months and hopefully get an offer for the Amex Gold or Platinum.
