Chase Amazon denied

I applied for the Amazon Chase card online after promting from Amazon and a $70 off offer. I got the 30 day message. After reading through posts I decided to call them on the reconsideration number I got from one of these forums.

I spoke with a very nice gentleman who explained that the application was denied because they had just issued me a Chase Ritz Carlton card the week before. I told him that I didn't realize when I applied for Amazon that it was also Chase. I also told him that I spent $9000 with Amazon in 2014 and I wanted to benefit from the rewards. He asked me to verify my income (250k) and he said he would take another look at my application.

He put me on hold for a few minutes and told me that he unfortunately could not approve a new credit card. He said my credit was very good but I had 3 new cards in 2014 and nothing before that. They need to see more history before they can approve another card.

I do have a very thin file with my oldest account in August 2014 (I paid everything cash for several years). I was actually very surprised to be approved for the Ritz card so I can't be mad at Chase. I will try again in a few months after I can at least generate a FICO score!

Sounds like a plan to me! Waiting a bit longer can really make a difference. Amazon Chase Visa has also been an oddball card for me.

And many others... Hard to get approved for this card for some...

I have a sneaky feeling these guys also check your purchase history at Amazon as part of the decision process. Makes sense I guess to give the card to people who shop there the most (for better or for worst).

Hmmmm.. I'd recon again personally with an income that large with only the limits in your profile. It's nowhere near where you need/want for your income.

Chase underwriting does not know nor care what your spend is at Amazon. (Won't affect chances of approval AT all.)

I'm a heavy shopper at Amazon... but I've never spent more than $750 a month there... so I'll take the 5% from Sallie Mae.

If that were the case I think I would be a definite approved. I ran an order report on my 2014 Amazon purchases and I was at $8915. Maybe I will try again as @Kenny suggested. Can't hurt for someone to have another look.

Screw this card. App for a SallieMae instead and you can get 5% back on up to $9,000/yr.

Sounds good, but he has already paid a high price. We are also talking about Chase, so I bet they double pulled - meaning, I would keep pressing the recon.

I agree and that's why I said recon wouldn't be a bad idea. Of course, Sallie Mae is a GREAT option for Amazon and I certainly use it there - and I have a high spend there, too. Probably more at Amazon than groceries/gas for my household. lol I have an Amazon addiction, unfortunately.

Yes, gotta love Amazon Prime. I have been a member for about 4 years and love the expedited deliveries. Wish I was in one of the cities that offer same day delivery!

Amazon.com Visa was actually my first credit card in which I'm the accountholder not AU ... I app'ed 3 times before they approved me (cuz I found out "recon" existed after tons of googling)
