Someone else might have more accurate information here but my best guess is if chase recognized this as an actual fradulent account then they should not be holding it against you. You can always call them and have someone check.

Hi,

So that I understand better, why was the Chase card charged off instead of being closed due to identity theft and then Chase reissuing a new card?

Also, I am almost certain that this is reflected in Chase's internal database.

I was naive to credit prior to the past year. Never really checked my score, didn't have the need to. Now that I'm "adulting" these things matter, I say all that to say.. by the time I pulled my report and noticed some things on there that I had no clue what they were.. the card had already been charged off.. back in 2014 or 2015. Hope that answers your question.

Hope that answers your question.

I still don't understand and it's ok if you prefer not to answer.

Was the CC in your name or were you an AU?

If in your name, were you paying on time or did you miss some payments?

Were you aware of the identity theft? If yes, did you notify Chase? If yes, did you file a police report?

What was Chase's response?

If the CC was in your name, you should have been getting some type of notifications from Chase.

I agree with Remedios, the chance of an approval is slim. However, there may be some hope if you contact Chase and ask them about the charge off and see if there's anything you can do to rectify the situation.

GL2U
