I read on various forums that once you cross over the 30k line with AMEX you are in prime territory for a 4506T request. People under 30k don’t seem to get asked as much. But as we all know everyone’s miles may vary. Good luck whatever you decide to do.

So I just had a 'what the heck' moment and sent a CLI on my Amex Bonvoy card, which has a current CL of $31k. Unsurprisingly, they sent me to an electronic version of the 4506T and asked me to docusign. The issue is that my 2019 income is markedly different than my 2018 income was, thanks in part to a large bonus at work and raises, etc. - which obviously aren't reflected in my 2018 return. Any advice on handling? Seems like it may be more trouble than it is worth to explain that to Amex . . .

I had a similar issue. I could provide a recent 1099 but hadn't filed the relevant income tax return yet.

The CSR on the phone had either no interest or authority to do anything other than put the CLI request into a computer and tell me to expect a letter in the mail (4506-T). She completely ignored my explanation of the unusual circumstances (owing tax after an investment sale). It didn't end up being much of an issue as I managed to take my BBP up to 300% utilization. All I lost was the ability to carry most of the balance at 0% for a few months more.

Amex was only interested in complete and filed returns.

How much do you actually want the CLI?

If it's not really important, personally, I would ignore it and go about your business.

If it is important, you'll need to play Amex's game. I don't think there's a way around it. Good luck!

Not that badly. Just refinanced my student loans though, and thought it might be a quick way to counteract any negative score impacts from the HP with a bump to CU. Thank you!

Old (I think). It was an SPG luxury card, but got migrated to Bonvoy earlier this year I think. Don't think that should have any impact on AOA.

Are you actually using your limit to its fullest potential? Asking for more yet not using it could cause concern on Amex end, thus the 4506?

I put $50 to $200 a month on the card. My CL is $34,800. I got every CLI with no requirement to file a tax return. I haven't asked for a CLI for somewhere around three years. For all I know, if I asked for one today I'd be required to provide a tax return.
