UPDATE: approved for $15,000. And I refinanced my car loan at 6%, down from 17.5% with evil Bridgecrest. I app’ed for a Delta Skymiles Amex and Uber Visa same day. Denied for both. Too greedy. I’ll be in the garden until this time next year. Thanks for all the advice!

I need the advice of the brain trust. I have a NFCU Cash Rewards card: $3,200 limit. Fourth statement just cut. I would like to apply for the Flagship card but don’t want to waste a hardpull if I can help it.

AAoA is 2yr 6mo
TU Fico 8 is 640
30% Utilization
10 inquires in the last year.

Just bought a house and new car three months ago.

Personally, I'd optimize my score by reducing aggregate and individual utilization to 8.9% or below. Get your score card the boost with those FICO points. Then, pull the trigger once everything updates. Navy has been known to be generous with their 2nd card.

NFCU is known for giving out monster limits on 2nd cards, but if you fear a HP for naught, then follow your instincts.

Also, are your mortgage and auto loan with NFCU? If yes or no, I would wait until those things turn 6 months old and CC UT is less than 28.9%.

NFCU is the BEST Bank/CU available!

Treat them right and they will reward you greatly!

Four months is not enough time before asking for a 2nd card.

I had my Cash rewards for 24 months and built it from $500 to $25,000 before I applied for their AMEX and was approved for $17.5.

It wasn't until 48 months that I asked for a third card.

Mind you I had great utilization and always used the cards and paid them in full.

Try for a CLOC first IMHO at the 12-month mark.

Asking for too much too quickly raises red flags with NFCU.

Treat them well and you will be rewarded for life.
