Comenity Verification- uh oh, snag (UPDATED glad it happened)

Just an update to all this posting. Turns out it's a good thing all this did happen. Just found out that the SSA would not have been able to verify and give him his Social Security one day and it would have been an even harder job at that point. THIS got Dh into the SSA office yesterday...he didn't care about the credit card but ss, well this is a whole nuther ball game. So a silver lining to a crappy Comenity tale. One sad thing though; the lady tore up his card he's had since day One.

The old stuff below: (btw, thanks to all who helped)

Comenity approved DH visa, wants verification though. I have gathered all docs., made copies but then I noticed something....His name is wrong on SS card. It has his middle and last name only. How the heck did this happen and how the heck has he gotten by for 50 yrs. with this? How we (parents, him, me) never noticed behooves me.

So I called SSA and they said he has to go in to a branch and once done it will be another couple of weeks to receive the new card. Is that delay going to make him lose his acct.? Should I notify Comenity that there is a delay? or just be quite. Should I send in all paperwork, including the original SS card and his birth certificate and his govt. id's? ( ie. weapons permit, work permits)

Idk what to do to help keep his new acct. from being closed.

Dont know but thats alot to ask for a Comenity Visa. I know its a hp but id wait for the new ssc. Explain to Comenity and if they dont understand, kick rocks lol. Wow, 50 years and no one noticed

Wow, 50 years and no one noticed (one of our finer "duh-huh" moments)....although it has been in a lock box since he got it in 1982 or 1983, but still, wow! is right. He's 50's, I worded that incorrectly.

First, kudos to you for even being able to find the original SS card. I recall looking high and low to find mine ~20 years ago when I applied for a passport. But because of Medicare and all that other stuff, you definitely want to get that corrected as soon as possible.

As far as Commenity is concerned, if it were me, I would just send copies of all the stuff anyway and let them approach me about any discrepancy, then worry about the CC then.

Okay, that was my initial thought. In the meantime will have to push dh to go take a number at the SS office, fun stuff.

If SS opens at 9a.m., go stand in line at 7a.m. I've done this on several occasions and I'm out by 9:30am. I'm first in line and it takes a matter of minutes to get you processed and out of there.

Agreed with CreditInspired - send everything else off, start the process on the SS card. If they ask for it, tell them it was misplaced but a new one is already ordered and ask that they hold it until you receive the new SS card.

Haven't read through all of comments, but he can get printed documentation from them with a visit. Not the actual card, but should be sufficient.

Update: no update, crickets.

How long does it take to get verified? I sure wish my dh went by his first name. None of this would have happened, including his ss# card being messed up.

Probably as long as it takes for Blispay to get up and running again . Hopefully, it won't be too long, but this is Comenity after all.

I would say do whatever is within your power to escalate if it gets closer to the 30-day mark and no traction has occurred.

Do you have any receipt confirmation of the documents that were sent? This way you have leverage on the timeframe to get things resolved.

Okay, it takes up to 30 days? I'm rushing it.

And yes, I sent everything certified/receipt request. They got it Monday according to tracking. I'll chill, thanks for responding.

They closed it. Never heard a peep from them.

1. Is this going to hurt his credit report?

2. Will they send him the reason?
