PenFed CU - Double hard pull

I opened a PenFed CU bank account, followed up by an auto-loan refi and credit card app in the same day which resulted in a double hard pull.

They were listed as:

Pentagon Fcu

Pentagon Fcu-alexand

I will call them tomorrow to see if they will remove one but just wanted to warn you guys. I did not see this happening to others although I could have missed it. I will update on my results.

It's weird how these work. I actually don't remember PenFed pulling my credit when I joined 2 years ago. I do remember getting an HP for the PCR card.

This is becoming annoyingly frequent... The PenFed Alexandria entry has even shown up for some people who were just going for membership, not credit products.

Don't waste your time calling to get a removal. They do a pull for membership and then a pull for products. The good news they will use the product pull for 30 days. I have two credit cards with them and they are my only cards that allow the same cash line as credit.

Penfed HPs for membership and they use the same HP for bank accounts and usually the same HP for a CC for usually up to 30 days. YMMV.

It's a separate HP for secured loans, auto or mortgage/home equity. Penfed has been a bit more HP happy than usual lately.

I had recently called penfed about a balance transfer. I had opened 2 accounts, a car loan and cc in dec. My limit is 10k on cc. I wanted to see if they would do a sp for increase. I did not want to take a hit of 80% uti. They said it would have to be a hard pull. So instead, I opened a cc at navy. Gave me a 25k open line and no transfer fee. So I deffinatley saved there. Then after that, I ran almost 4k thru penfed for dental work. I paid it all off before statement cut. Now it will be sockdrawer time and see if after a year is up, if they will appreciate me more.

I have definitely heard better things with the NavyCU. If was was eligible to join, I would definitely be there.

Hello,

When I joined PenFed, I opened a chking and svings on the same day. They did a HP for each. I called the next day (had to let overnight processing happen) and requested they delete or not report 1 of the HP's since both accounts were opened on the same day. Was xferd to a back office person who said yeah no prob that it could be done. He did advise however that I might see both HP's if i pull my cr within the next couple weeks but 1 would be gone within the month if it did show. FF a couple weeks and onyl 1 HP was reported. this was about 2.5yrs ago.

I just wanted to update the thread. I finally called them and the CSR told me that auto and credit loans run through different systems and pull different reports so there will always be two pulls even if it is made in the same day.
