Is this mailer legit? - BofA

Received this mailer from BofA today.

Offer is for Cash Rewards World MasterCard.

Nowhere on the mailer or envelope does it say “pre-approval“ or “pre-qualified“ but it has a solid APR (albeit not a good one lol) and a personal secure code.

Only even curious because of the 0% for 15 months on purchases and BT’s. It could really come in handy to shuffle a bit from
super high interest cards.

However, I PC’d my bankamericard (white/no rewards) about 2-3 months ago to the cash rewards (not world version tho).

Interested if this is a pretty solid offer or straight up marketing

Marketing solicitation I'm afraid even with a non-spread APR (invitation codes are simply for tracking purposes). BoA sends pre-approved offers from time to time, but those are not as common. Typically, if you're a BoA customer, some pre-qualified/pre-approved offers would display in the "offers" section of the online dashboard.

Does the envolope say pre-selected anywhere?

Nope envelope makes no mention of pre-selected. I am not sure if I can have two cash rewards cards anyways.

Yes, you can have quite a few actually (or as many as BOA is willing to approve). Some are even available through affinity partnerships such as WWF, MLB, Susan G Komen, and the list is extensive.

So, as far as the mailer goes, it's just standard marketing. It's legit in the sense that they want you to apply. It may also have the opt-out language which means you met some type of pre-screening criteria for the offer, just not pre-qualified.

I hope OP doesn’t mind I piggyback on your thread but I have a similar question so I think it may be better to use the same thread.

I have a family member who is newly building credit and just received a mailer today. Does it look like it’s a solid pre approval? There is also an offer under “Special Offers & Deals” so I am hoping it is for real.

Other relevant stats:

FICO: 710 - 720

AoOA: 1.5 mon

Only Acct: Amex CM SL $2,000 approved 10/2019

Has BoA checking and saving accounts set up with direct deposit

If there is an offer under your account online / Special offers and deals then IME its a solid offer.

I’ve received mailers and only applied after it showed under my online account.

@FieryDance- the mailer that you shared is almost as close to a pre-qualified offer, but not 100% guaranteed for all profiles. If the overall profile is solid or can support the approval, then that's up to your family member to decide/proceed.

That said, as @Anonymous mentioned above, if their online account dashboard has "A special offer for you" under the “Special Offers & Deals” section, then that tends to be more solid offer, but still subject to credit approval.

Ive seen offers under my account that were straight up marketing. You have to understand your profile and income in relation to Boa to get a better feeling imo.

There was a notorious example on reddit 2-3 years ago of someone who claimed to get a MLB card for nearly every team and collect all the SUBs. He did have pictures to support the claim.

I do have 2 x Cash Rewards cards, so there's no doubt that having more than 1 is feasible.

Thank you FinStar and everyone’s opinion.

I will give my blessing but make it clear to family member ultimately they need to do their own research and make their own decision. They are an adult now and that’s part of it.

Interestingly after about 6 or more months of no Mailer from BoA, I get one yesterday for that darn Cash card they keep pushing!

I don't know why they stopped for so long, when i was getting them about weekly. Perhaps the recent balances and lower score?

If they sent one for a different card I'd be temtped. I think my main problem with them is that they scaled back their cards from what it used to be, I really wanted to get one from a few years back but it's no longer available.
