I can attest that PNC likely is not overly concerned with usage. I've belonged to the bank for a good long while, and I have a PNC Card as well which had not seen usage since winter 2018. I know I know, this is against most of our common data point knowledge of at least putting activity on it every 3 months or so... but being a member of the bank I wasn't too worried. Since PNC started the SP CLI's, I've received a couple and these were all without usage on the card if that helps add to your datapoint.

Does anyone know if PNC cares about card usage when requesting a CLI? My card isn't getting much use lately ($50/mo), thanks to WF Earn More Mall deals for gas. But eventually it will.

Also, do they do a HP? That's less important than knowing usage and whether I'd be wasting my time going for one.

Hubby just got a decent CLI (4k) via soft pull. Usage was on the higher end (60%+) from a balance transfer invitation for 0%, but we've been paying it down aggressively. We only bothered with the CLI in an attempt to get usage to a friendlier number. He does both business and personal banking with them and has for 10+ years.

When it's a SP they specifically state that they will not pull your credit report and requesting one will not affect your credit score. If you get to the page before you hit "Submit" and it asks your your permission to pull a copy of your credit report then it is likely a HP.

Edit: Here is what the hard pull language looks like:

Go the denial letter today for the CLI. Reason:

    * Current amount of unsecured credit available with us

Sounds like my balances with the card is too low. I have no other loans or cards with them and therefore too much unsecured credit available.

I am waiting for my PNC Cash Rewards card to arrive in the mail, so this thread has been helpful for me to know what to expect. I got this card for gas and restaurants, and based my spend for last year, I’ll use most of the $8000 cap in addition to 5% quarters I’ll get from Disco for gas and restaurants. Using raw numbers from last year and taking out the 5% quarters, we averaged $745 monthly in those categories, so we could get around $100 more in cash back for the year if we spend the amount this year.
Hopefully this will be enough to get some good CLI’s after a year.

From what I understand, CLI with them are only once every 6 months. Not sure if that includes auto CLI as well or user requested.

Their CLI are soft pulls.
