So I became a member of NFCU. I passed on the invitation to apply during sign up, no mention of pre-qualification or anything like that, because my plan is to wait and apply in April.

My 2020 goal is to get my 2nd Disco in Feb, and go about getting 2 NFCU card following that.

I understand the first NFCU card is always a bit of a "get to know each other" type of card. The second card is the magic one as I understand things. Which card is the easiest to get, Rewards, More Rewards, Go Rewards, or Cash Rewards?

I have three months to woo NFCU. What is the best way? Move direct deposits to them and run as much cash flow as possible through them, or just wait and let them monitor my credit reports?

Any suggestions?

cashRewards, Go Rewards, Platinum, and More Rewards all have the same UW behind them. Flagship is considerably more strict.

If you need a grocery/restaurant/gas/transit card the More Rewards 3 points per dollar is a nice card as long as you don't mind $50 minimum redemption and lower AMEX acceptance.

Platinum is a great card if you need a low interest card (even if you don't get the lowest right out of the gate which is very common they will entertain a reduction every year if you ask).

cashRewards is a great everyday spend card if you don't mind 1.5%, especially since it doesn't have a minimum cash back redemption and cash back is available when transactions post instead of at the statement like many cards.

Go Rewards... unless you need the higher acceptance because of international travel, the More Rewards is the superior card.

As for wooing them... just use your card a lot and pay it every month. They're easy enough to please and they do not focus on depository relationship for UW criteria so doing non-credit things with them won't increase your credit chances with them.

Congratulations on NFCU membership. They are great. I’ve been with them for a few years. I noticed once I started using my checking/ savings more I received an auto cli. That was probably coincidence because many on here reported auto cli around the same time.

Congratulation’s and welcome to the NFCU family. I personally went for the go rewards knowing that the limit would be lower at first. The plus In my opinion is I used it for gas, restaurants, and groceries knowing I wouldn’t exceed the 1k they started me out with.

Fast forward to 91/3 and I applied for the More Rewards AMEX and instant approval for 25k with the lowest apr of 11.15%.

Just use the card responsibly and pay what you use and they will reward you. Oh I forgot to mention they also gave me a SP CLI on my go rewards 3X from 1k to 3k.

It’s very well documented on this site what NFCU is capable of. Treat them well and they shall do the same. Good luck with whatever you decide. Oh you may want to add some data points on your CR profile.

With Navy 1st card approvals can go either way.

But you have a good card! Use it. Navy will warm up to you.
