What I think the OP is asking is if there is any inherent benefit to waiting for some period of time to apply (for example, 6 months) vs. applying right after approval for membership.

Sorry let me clarify my question. I was wondering if there is a benefit to waiting a certain amount of time after becoming a member that boost your odds of being approved.

I don't know if there are enough data points on waiting, it seems most app right away.

I think as long as your scores are decent and no serious baddies/lates/derogs .. it probably does not make a whole lot of difference.

They don't seem to be Inquiry sensitive.

I joined online week before last; typical of a CU after about a day they sent me a request to upload copies of a suitable ID and SS card. Took them about 30 minutes to finalize the approval once I uploaded copies of my passport and SS card. No issue setting up and then making ACH pushes from Alliant wasn't a hassle either.

I only waited a week just to see if the account would be flagged for out of state as there are some horror stories on here about that. When nothing was frozen I then apped for the low rate Visa and was approved for $10K @ 10.4%. I have a ton of inquiries and new accounts in the last year so they don't seem to be sensitive to that.

I am very pleased with them as CU so far.

There is no reason to wait once you're approved for membership.

I will tell you a great tidbit of info.

Right now opening a CC gives you 12 months no interest on any purchases or on any BT.

Don't go for the lowest APR card but go for the Cash back card because after the 12 months you can switch to the lower APR visa and they will automatically drop you APR by 3%. A supervisor gave me that...

I pulled the trigger on the CashBack visa about an hour ago and got an immediate conditional approval (they pulled TU, checked the status right away) pending tinal processing of the master credit agreement. At least IME they don't appear to be particularly sensitive to inquiries or new accounts.

Where's my money??? LOL. I didn't qual for their ck acct bc of chexsystems inquiries. I tried finding out their criteria to see when I should apply again and a SUPERVISOR told me that she doesn't know. She said that CHEXsystems tells them whether to decline someone. She said that she couldn't override it. I'm no banking expert, but I just find it hard to believe that a company is just going to let a third party dictate who they do business with.

Unfortunately, just like with other CUs or banks, that's just part of their risk mitigation process. Some FIs use ChexSystems while others use EWS, for instance. For some banks or CUs it may seem a bit ultra sensitive, but it is what it is. Their rules, though.

yes, of course. i get the risk mit process. i just didn't like the fact that she tried to play dumb and pretend that she didn't know what the denial reasons meant and tried to put it on chex.
