Since starting my credit journey I usually do this haha, usually letting one card report like $1 or so on the statement closing date and the other 0. Yeah I am considering requesting a CLI with Disco but my last one was lasth month, I double dipped so I am a bit weary they may give me the "not enough experience message" haha. Thanks for the feedback!

Yes, exactly what I meant. There doesn't seem to be any data they care if you ask for another CLI but I understand if you have any hestiation.

Next Chase Card? Advice?

Hello everyone I’d like some advice, suggestions etc for a Chase card I am interested in. Here are my following cards with their limits and other info:

Discover It - $4k CL, opened Feb 18 2019
Citi Secured - $400 CL, opened March 10 2019
Chase Freedom - $3.8k CL, opened Nov 14 2019

FICO 8 Scores
EX: 718
TU: 735
EQ: ???
Income $32k

As you guys can see my file is quite thin but was able to get a Freedom card with less than a year of history. I’ve heard that with Chase the hard part is getting in, once you are in it’s fairly easy to get other cards with them. Is this true? I ask because I am interested in the Chase Sapphire Preferred card. I’ve heard of many people being approved for this card after 2-4 months of showing responsible use with the Freedom cards, so I was wondering if you guys think if I have a shot at this card? I know my file is thin and it will work against me, but if I do apply obviously it won’t hurt to wait until my Discover turns a year old and maybe even the Citi card as well, which by the way I have already received a letter about a month ago saying this card will become unsecured and I’ll be receiving their Diamond Preferred card which I plan to product change into a Citi DC. Initially I was interested in the Propel card for the broad bonus categories it offers but I think I need focus on Chase first due to their 5/24 rule. Sorry for the long post, hope I can get feedback and thanks everyone for your time! 😊

You can check the prequal on their site or in a local branch.

However, you might want to wait until you get your Citi PC and see what the CL is. I'd also check for a CLI on your discover and CF when available.

CSP is a Visa Signature so starting limit will need to be at least $5K. They may not want to be the first lender to offer you that limit.

Discover on the other hand, I started this card out as the secured version back in Feb of last year with a deposit of $2300. The card graduated in October, did not get a cli but three months after that, I did get an auti cli of $1000 and then a day later i tried my luck double dipping, successfully getting another $700, bringing my limit to $4k. I have heard of Discover giving auto cli to people quite often, or some people request one every three months or some every week haha but I don't think I am in a position to do this yet haha!

Oh and to everyone else I feel like the CSP would be a good fit for me now, since I do travel once a year and the af isn't too bad and if I find no value, I can just downgrade it to a CFU!

I know this isn't a race or a sprint, so this is why I ask people for their thoughts and opinions, if I should slow down a bit, how long should I wait to pull the trigger again etc.

Prior to getting the Freedom card I would also check this link and get the same message. I know of people that never get prequals from Chase but still get approved but I welcome any suggestions of course and I know it won't be the same for every profile. When I did apply for the Freedom card I did go to a Chase branch near my home and the banker told me I was pre-qualified for the Slate card not sure if that was true or not haha, but I think I may have to pay a visit to my local branch to see if I have any offers. Apparently one can have in branch offers even if one doesn't get one from the prequal link?

I don't know if I would get into a CSP with an income of 32k. The SUB of 60,000 points requires a 4,000 minimum spend in 3 months.

Freedom Unlimited is a nice 1.5% cash back card and the bonus is easy to hit $200 for $500 dollar spend. If you pair it with the Freedom you can average x2.9 gas and x2.2 groceries. If you stick a good deal of spend on the card they will auto increase you.

Also on the app for Chase they look at how many cards you've opened in 30 days, 3 months and 6 months. It will be tough to avoid the 6 months but you might be able to do it for the 3 month if you wait another month to app.

Yes 5/24 is an issue but its only 5/24. You've already have a few accounts out there for a year. If you wanted to try another product like AMEX or Wells Fargo not to big of a deal at this point. Its only when you have your eye on other products like business cards or mortgages that it makes sense to slow down. If you aren't going to do any of that for a few years I wouldn't worry about it.

Do you have any link or info about this card? That sounds like a great idea, I don't really mind if I did miss out on a CFU bonus but if there is a way to still be eligible for that bonus while being able to downgrade the CSP then it makes more sense to do this. Thank you for your feedback!

It would be my first card with a somewhat hefty min spend if I do apply for it, but this is why I like to time the apps as well, to ensure I can meet this SUB. Of course if odds still seem slim, I guess the CSP shall be for another time haha although it would be great to use it abroad this year!

For sure, I am already loving my Freedom card and I plan of putting a lot more spend on it once the Casback Match from Disco is over in order to hopefully get a CLI with Chase, which I heard can be hard.

Yes 6 months will be tough to get over, and yes I am waiting a month or two and see if I still want to apply.

I am actually into the Propel card as well, it fits my spending quite well but I also only have 2 slots left for 5/24, so I really want those two or at least one of those to be another Chase card. I know people are able to get around the 5/24 rule for some reason but it isn't the case for everyone. I was told on here as well that odds of getting the Propel card are quite slim for me at the moment, although I do have a prior relationship with WF. I'd love an AMEX card as well, but I think I can hold off getting an AMEX for a later date. Haha yeah mortgages aren't in my radar anytime soon, but in the meantime I would love to have a good base of cards and hopefully get my score up high enough to get the best rates on mortgages when it is time for me to get one! Thanks for the input!

If you call to downgrade a CSP, they will offer it (I just did this in August). You'll lose some benefits like primary rental car coverage, transfer partners, and 2x on travel, but you'll maintain 2x on restaurants. I figure if you downgraded to that, you can re-evaluate the CSP/CSR in 4 years, and if you think you'll get positive value out of it, you could then PC the Sapphire card to a CF/CFU and then get another SUB with the Sapphire family. But if you don't care about the CFU SUB, you could save a second future phone call.
