Capital One Blacklisted? Help/Advice?

Hello Everyone....

Quick question. I had a Capital One Secured Card opened back on June 1st, 2017 and unforutantely screwed up. I had two payments bounce back as "insuffieicent funds" and then Capital One closed the account. Furthur more... I let it charge off (I was a hot mess during this time). I paid the card in full on September 19th, 2018, and a little over a year after paying it off I tried applying back in December 2019 and it said this message - also no hard pull from any of the bureas. (Based on your application information, we observed activity on a prior Capital One account that is not consistent with our expectations for account usage or the terms of the account agreement)

Does this mean I was blacklisted? ((

Yes that means exactly that. Over time they may let you back in. Having 2 bounced payments is a big taboo and then letting it charge off. It will probably take some time with them.

The worst thing you can do in Cap1's eyes is bounce a payment. From what I've seen, bounce two and they shut down the cards and blacklist you.

You may have luck calling them but I doubt it! They take late payments very seriously. You need to ask yourself, " Are you truly ready for another chance" and would you give one of the show was on the other foot?

CSR have no say everything is computer generated. It will just take time.....................................................

Cap 1 is one of the more forgiving institutions but they usually take a couple of years 2-3 from what I've read. Garden and grow during the next 2-3 years and try to re-establish with them. Best of luck.

Sorry to hear that you've been blacklisted by Cap1. Give it more time. Plus, there are other creditors out there. Not sure what your profile looks like, but maybe establish good history with a current lender. It may help your case in the future, but definitely won't hurt!

The exact same thing happened to me. I had 2 payments bounce back, they closed my account, and then i filed for bankruptcy alittle later. i only had a limit of about $600 with them. It has been about 2 years for me and im still receiving this message. They arent even pulling my credit report its just an automatic denial. I even called to try to speak to someone and see if they could just manually apply for me on their end and check my report but i had no luck. I just keep trying every few months and hope for a prequalify offer.

Yup! I had a secured card with them opened in June 2nd of 2017 - had payments bounce, then the card charged off and then paid in full in September of 2018. Going to be 2 years this September and they won't budge for me. Altough, they approved me financing for an auto loan I have with them - they wont let me in credit wise. I try the prequal every now and then. I am going to try actually applying come January of 2021 to see if they have forgiven me yet lol. Let me know if you have any luck! I will keep you posted too!

Keep us updated. We don't have many long term datapoints for this situation. Most people only post right after it happens and we don't hear anything again. There was one person that bounced 2 payments and they were still blacklisted 10 years later. That's the only long term datapoints that I've seen.

ok i will! And i was thinking about getting an auto loan with them. how were the terms? did they give high interest rates and payments? im suprised they approved you for the auto loan and nit the card.

Terms weren't the best. 48 month loan at 12% interest. Interest is a bit high but thats bc I have an open (voluntary) repoession back in 2017 because I lost my job and then decided to go back to school to better myself lol. It was with Regional Acceptance (DONT EVER FINANCE WITH THEM) and the balance is 14k but are willing to settle around 3k.

But yeah I am surprised they financed me. Lets hope it helps me get back in I miss them!

OH, I did forget to mention - I am an authorized signer on my moms credit card with them. Its an 11 year old account and she added me in 2018 when I started my rebuild to boost my credit. So maybe that can help with data points?

Any data helps. Their auto finance is separate from their credit cards. Chase is the same way, different rules for different arms of business. Chase will blacklist you for 10 years if you have a BK, their auto finance will only blacklist you for a year. The two arms don't influence each other.

I just applied and got a prequalified offer for one of their car loans. thanks for letting me know that the cards and auto was seperate because i had no clue! Im not going to just go get a car today but its nice to know once mine dies i have an option.

I recently had a payment bounce back from Cap One secured card. The thing is, I had no minimum payment due. I had my account set to pay the minimum balance, but I had paid the card in full after the statement cut. After I paid it in full, I went out and put $5 on it just to let it report the next month. Even though my account said no minimum payment due, they tried to pull that $5 from my account. It’s an account that I only add to , to pay the bills and it was empty. I immediately called them and told them I didn’t want a late charge or a returned payment fee, because I had no minimum due and they shouldn’t have tried to take one. The csr told me I wouldn’t get either and not to worry about it. The next month I applied for a cli and the reason they gave me for being denied was that I had a return payment. Once this card has served its purpose of rebuilding my credit, I’m going to close it and get my deposit back.

Hey I know this response is a little late but I recently got back in with Cap1.

I had a maxed out Quickailver One which was charged off in 2017. It had a limit of $1000 and I settled for around $500. I tried to prequalify with no luck and I was also declined for a secured card around April of this year. No hard pull. Denial mentioned previous relationship.

In June my girlfriend was approved for the secured card and in July, I added myself as an authorized user. That seemed to get me off the Black List because I checked the pre qualification and got a hit on the secured card.

My mom also had a Platinum card for two years and She added me as an AU. Checked the prequal again and got a hit on the Quicksilver One. I applied and got approved for $1000. My original limit.

I say try to get on as an AU first, preferably on an account with all on time payments.

Auto loans are generally easier to qualify for because there is collateral on the loan - the car - whereas CCs have no collateral and are therefore a much higher risk.
