My approval odds for the Chase Freedom? UPDATE: Approved!!!

Dear all,

I am looking at the Chase Freedom. How would you rate my approval odds?

Current cards:

AmEx Hilton Surpass, $6,500 CL, opened 06/2019

Discover It Cash Back, $1,000 CL, opened 11/2019

Utilization: 5-8%

Fico 8 scores: EX 715, TU 712

Income: Living from husband's salary and my savings. Just moved to the US and expect my work permit to arrive in 05/2020. My last income in my home country was $78,000 and is projected to be $85-110,000 here in the US.

Chase checking and savings account opened 3 weeks ago (joint account with hubby). We live in TX.

You have controlled what you is under your control.
For Chase I would suggest waiting until your oldest account is at least a year old.
Given that that is not far away, I would wait.

You have a strong limit on Amex. Thin profile and less than a year of history. I'd wait a year. Unless you get a preapproval in app, or branch.

welcome to texas

if applying for chase freedom from texas, you'll get hp from experian and equifax.

you'll get notification of hardpull from experian first then equifax about a day or so later.

your equifax score from the month before will be what chase will include when you receive your card.

i applied with a young file and got declined and i had to call reconsideration to get approved.

you can try that, but i suggest waiting and you will most likely get a higher sl.

As others have said, probably best to wait until your oldest card is 1 year. That will give you the added benefit of being able to report higher income as well.

As everyone else has said, the best bet is to wait a year before applying (even though some of us aren't patient haha). But I would like to also include, that you could probably attempt to increase your other card limits. Chase from my research like to see a few things multiple Cards with long history + high limits on cards + low inquires within 3-6 months up to a year. This the best way to get an approval and good limit/apr on their cards. Both Discover and Amex offer soft pull increases so there's no harm in asking them to increase your limits for those cards after you reach 6 months on the cards. This should help improve your overall credit profile before applying to Chase!

Dear all,

this is OP again. Now that Chase announced the Q2 categories (groceries!!!), it is very hard for me to keep my feet still.

What would happen if they denied my application? When could I apply again?

In the meantime I have asked for CLI with Discover. They rejected my request because of insufficient experience with their credit limits. I received an auto CLI with AmEx beginning of February after 5 months (5,000 - > 6,500) and am not sure when to ask for the next one.

Hi folks,

here is an update from OP. I couldn't resist and pulled the trigger 3 days ago after my CLI had posted. Got the 30 days message first and then the 7-10 days message. I called recon and got transferred to fraud department. I wasn't logged into my checking/savings account when I applied as I got a referral link from mother in law. They asked me to send a copy of my driver's license which shows current address and DOB. I was surprised that they couldn't verify me by using my existing account information, but I sent the fax immediately. As per today I still get the 7-10 days message. What are the smartest steps to take next? Should I call them tomorrow and ask if they had received the fax?
