Hey all,

Closing on my home in about a month and was looking for some input. I'm going to add one card before committing myself to the garden until I'm under 5/24 (CIC and then Freedom, or FU, 6-12 months later or vice versa depending on offers). I'm looking to go with PNC Cash or BoA Cash for a 12-15 month 0% card to cover some home purchases.

BoA is the only lender to deny me in the past without getting an approval at some point so I kind of want to make them say yes lol.

PNC I have checking and savings accounts with already.

Pros and Cons to both please. I'd like a usable limit (most of mine are 5 figure so hoping for $10k+). I'm not big into cash back but I can't think of a Travel Card that I'm interested in at the moment with a 0% period. BoA has theirs but I feel the Cash Rewards is a better overall card.

Thanks in advance!

I'd go with the PNC. It's probably my favorite card that I don't have. While you don't get the 3% "rotatable" category, you get pretty good overall coverage (4% gas, 3% restaurants, 2% groceries). It definitely beats BoA before they offered the monthly option, and maybe even still, since PNC has $8k limit instead of $6k. I'd have it myself if PNC let me PC.

I have the PNC Cash Rewards card, and it’s a great card. The payments and rewards post quicker than any of my others cards. The rewards center has a good breakdown of cashback per purchase and a tracker that shows how much has been spent towards the cap.

I've had PNC for some time now, and felt the PNC card was 'eh' and usually a lower limit. I personally think that if you're hoping for a long term relationship with a high growth rate, that alone would make me say BOA. However, if you value the banking relationship and just having a card regardless of limit growth over time, PNC is never a bad choice, I love banking with them. They tend to CLI in smaller increments compared to BOA that's for sure .

BofA would be worth pursuing if you want a selectable 3% category card and can possibly fund an account with enough to be eligible for the Preferred Rewards multipliers (25%, 50%, 75%). Cash Rewards and Premium Rewards would be a nice daily driver set to roll with if gaining the multipliers were to be an option for you. (Merrill account would work too)

As an aside, when I was denied for a cash rewards, the letter emphasized not having an existing account, as did the CSR when i reconned. So if you want to boost your approval odds, grab $1500 and put it in an Advantage Plus checking account.

The PNC cash rewards is a really good card. I've had mine since this past November. 4% gas, 3% restaurants, 2% grocery. Matches my spend nicely.

Anxiously awaiting my 6 month mark so that I can request a CLI. They value relationship. I've been banking with them since March 2019. Starting limit for me was $12,500.
