US Bank Cash + from Florida

I am hoping for a US Bank Cash + card and I understand they are a relationship heavy bank. I tried to open a checking or savings account to start a relationship but was told Florida is outside their foot print. So anything else I can do to increase my chance? I don't mind gardening but would like to have a timeline, since it seems I will have to cold app at some point.

No baddies but thin file, Fico scores:

EX, 759, 4 inquries, 10/19, 12/19, 12/19, 3/20

TU, 780, 1 inquiry, 4/20

EQ, 798, no inquiry

Only 2 cards to my name:

Amex BCE 10/19 SL $2000, now $4000

BoA CR MC 12/19 $5000

Any advice to when I can try to cold app? And in the meantime anything I can do to improve my odds?

My mom just got that card (11,000 CL) and we live in Michigan just to use the 5% CB on the phone and cable bill.

While relationships can't say much just because that is just money; the major thing would be based on your credit report and the details that are in it.

Are there any late fees? Are there so many Hard Pulls shown on your report? Is the average age for account good? etc down the list.

Interesting as US Bank was to be entering Texas, Georgia, Florida and North Carolina (2019-2020). They have opened branches in North Carolina. In searching I find a US Bank Branch in Naples Florida (assuming it actually exists) then they would be in Florida?

Came up with the following Florida address: 9105 Strada Place, Suite 3200, Naples 34108. Did a further search on US Bank's website and no Florida address comes up. So what the heck?

I did the exact same thing when I was trying to figure out if the zip code input on their site was legit. When I put in the zip code for the one listed on the Internet in Naples, FL and came back on their site that is was not valid but shows a branch there on the web. I want to start a relationship with them also to get the Cash+ card but guess I will have to wait until they decide to come to GA.

My brother cold apped for the Cash+ card and he lives in Florida, no prior relationship. Was approved for $3500 with 670ish TU med collections and 3 year old 30/60 day lates. I dont think this is the norm for US Bank but yes, sometimes, miracles happen

It's a bit of work but if you open a brokerage account with them they'll open a checking account for you.

I also live in FL, I thought I was 😜, because the US Bank is one of my goal cards and I swore I saw a branch recently while riding my bike. Turns out I am only 1/2 😝, here you go

@eastsea You should be okay if the cards you have arent very recent.

US bank is not particularly sensitive to negatives, or even utilization unless really excessive, but they are somewhat sensitive to length of history.

It really doesnt mean you wouldnt get approved if your file is young, but your approval will reflect that in lower SL and higher APR (I guess low is subjective lol).

Banking product wont improve your chances. They are "relationship" bank, but that's a two way street. Depositing $200 doesnt "trick" any lender. People who get approved, would have gotten approved anyway.

They deny cards for existing customers with whom they have "relationship" for credit seeking, so the whole "lemme open an account to improve my odds" is kinda wishful thinking.

If this card is a good fit for you, apply.

It's a single pull, and whatever happens, happens. No need to complicate things.

The end result will be the same whether you have an account or not.

I was recently declined for that card (a few months ago) and if I recall correctly, the letter said it was either due to too many new accounts or too many inquiries in the last 12 months. I think I had 3 new cards at the time on like 5 inquiries. It might have been for the last 6 month period (those numbers were 2 cards and 4 inquiries). So if you are doing an app spree, make sure they are one of the first you hit because they are not fans of credit seekers.

I live in Florida and opened a checking and savings when I got my AMEX Cash + card from US Bank. Who told you you couldnt open an account? I did it online. No problem.

Now that's interesting. I just googled the address and it is a mortgage office by US Bank.

Thank you for the advice, @Remedios. Do you have any insights to what people are talking about when they say US Bank cares about relationships? I have seen that repeated on these forums.

My file is young and old. The 2 cards since rebuild are only 4 and 6 months old and a few more inquiries from denied apps. But I also have several old closed accounts still showing, and several excellent AU accounts. Clean file. If I go for a cold app, might be better wait till Oct in case US Bank pulls TU in Florida.

Did you get the card first before you open the checking and savings?

I did more reading and it seems like if you live outside their geo area, you need to get approved for a card or brokerage account first before any deposit accounts. Some people got them all on the same day but still they got the card first, then bank accounts.

@eastsea US Bank relies less on credit card lending than some others like Chase.

When people talk about "relationship", they usually think that putting a certain amount in checking/savings is a relationship. It's not.

Bottom line is, those same people would have been approved without the account, just like many with accounts get denied. Most of US Bank denials are for credit seeking reason.

Because your oldest open account is quite young, I'd wait a bit longer, because they will deny for 2 new accounts in a year. Your cards will age, and your approval will be on a lot better terns.

I think you should garden a bit longer, then apply, till at least one card is a year old.

I've been extremely pleased with them, and cash+ is definitely worth spending some time in the garden.

Yes. I got the card first. I only opened the checking and savings after the card was approved and I had onkine access. This allows me to make deposits into the checking and pay the card directly from the US Bank account. This way the credit becomes available immediately when i make payment.

Do not know what has taken place but US Bank had short range plans to open Bank Branches in Florida, Texas, Georgia and North Caroline during 2019-2020. They did open in Charlotte North Carolina (not by accident I am sure as it is a big location for Bank of America).

Any luck with Altitude Reserve in Florida? I am planning for maybe next year downgrade my Prestige in favor of the AR. I pay about $155 for my Prestige and AR would be around $75 for me after using the credits plus i use Apple Pay here in Europe a lot.

My file is starting to get some traction at 760 Fico8, 1+ year AaoA.. I read that US Bank opens a free account somewhere just by having a good credit score, but i am only interested in the AR so if i can get the AR without banking relationship that would be great. The thing is that i don't have an ITIN or SSN so US Bank would have to be willing to take me just with my foreign passport, would this be possible? Has anyone heard something about or can ask?

I have my US home address, can provide proof of address with my citi bank statements, have an EIN number which i can use. Does US Bank asks for the DL in the CC applications? I could also next year get a DL if needed. Is it possible for me based in FL to open the AR online/phone? Or due to my characteristics most likely they will say to me only apply in-branch... That would be like North Carolina from Florida! I don't think i am able to take that ride ... because of course imagine i do and open it, but then to have my account serviced or something serious that can't be handled online/phone i would need to go in-branch miles apart??! It just seems counterproductive, i hope it's not that difficult, i am just wanting the AR to replace my Prestige possibly in the next year.

The reasons why i am thinking over the AR is that is cheaper for me to maintain in the long run that the Prestige. The AR is a Visa Infinite so provides better car rental insurance, it has the protections that citi took away, the metal feel of the card i think it's better than the plasticky Prestige, and i use mobile wallets a lot.. almost 90% and i spend the most of my time in Europe it even makes more sense than solenly using it in the USA. They would gain a good customer, but my main gripe is that if they would allow me to process my application without ITIN.

You cannot get AR without an existing product with them, be it DDA or a different credit card.

I had to submit copy of DL and SS card when the process was being finalized.

I completed everything on line, then I was contacted via email to either submit required info that way, or take it to the nearest branch.
