Best Buy Card Approval Chances

I close on my house 30JUN20 and i am looking into getting a best buy card AFTER i close.

Some data points for you:

EX3: 714

TU4: 664

EQ5: 660

AAoA: 2y 11mo

NFCU CC: $30/$1000 3% UTL

1 collection from 2018 that has been paid in full

EX and EQ showing 2 inquiries in the last 12 months, TU showing 3 inquiries in the last 12 months. All of these pulls were shopping for the best mortgage rates. I made 67k last year and will make about 70K this year. I have been in the Navy for 7 years.

Any light anyone can shed on this for me would be greatly appreciated!

You should be fine for an approval for at least the store card. I wouldn't be able to guess for how much. You can get a larger limit by applying in store, and if it's not enough, the CSRs can call in to recon for you.

I was approved in Nov 2019 for best buy visa when I applied in store. Scores were less than they are now I think maybe around 680-700 across the 3. I believe they pulled EQ which was my lowest score. I do not have any collections but I do have 6 yr old student loan lates. I was approved for $2,500 starting CL. I think my aaoa was a little over 2 yrs. Only a couple inquiries. Idk if that helps.

I app'ed at checkout with about those scores last year, just a TON more inq's and new accounts... and was fine, with an SL of 1k. Could have recon'd them if I wanted. Chose not to. Go for it once you close. You should be fine.

Based on your EQ/EX profile, you're most likely a go for a $2K SL probably with a chance of recon to $5K if you apply in-store during checkout. Anything over that is gonna be a long shot IMHO.

What reason would you want to get a Best Buy Card out of curtoisty?

Sounds good. I would say apply in store. I would also add another navy card to your wallet. You would get a nice SL.

@Harvey26 I have been doing a bit of research here on the forum and i came across a thread about NFCU CLI increases. I think i am going to try and get a bigger increase on my NFCU card first before i try to get a best buy card. I have read some great success stories with people getting a great credit limit increase.

This. And Wayfair grows fast. I've been very happy with everything I've gotten from them. Doesn't hurt that it's grown from $500 to $10,500 in just over a year and a half too.

I love my Best Buy card. The 0% is a great benefit and I've really advanced my electronics using it without paying any interest! Another nice perk is that you earn points for rewards. If you get the option for the branded card or the store card, take the branded one. I get a lot of emails offering me extra ways to earn rewards, many of which I am able to participate in. For example, I got one that gave me a free $25 if I spent $100 or more in groceries for a month. That was easy to do. I've also had a lot of success with credit limits with them and it's grown pretty decently to over $5k now. They've actually just increased it without my asking a few times. I also like the fact that it's backed by Citi. :-)

I applied for BB online in January of this year. The site asked me if I wanted the store card or the Visa, checked the box for the Visa, approved for $2K. Score was in the 695 range at the time.

Congrats on the closing coming up and after that new mortgage is reporting, consider going for Navy card #3.

I had a 776 FICO score with EX (which they pulled). I have multiple accounts, and had 8 inquiries on EX when I applied, but a low income. Chose the Visa option and got approved for a $4,000 limit.

Hi mate, here's my story. last year in Oct. I applied in store and they gave me 2.5k and I decided to go for visa instead of store card, in May this year I called and HP on TU and my limit went from 2.5k to 10k per my request.
