NAVY FEDERAL DENIED

Joined a day ago opened a checking and savings account.decided today to do the prequel and was preapproved for all their cards.Ok so I append for the flagship card and got the in review answer within 24-48 hours.30 mins later received and email "sorry after further review we cannot approve your application but you may still apply for the secured card with a 200 dollars deposit. Ow. I do you my FICO scores are exp 738 Tu 716 and eq 731 no baddies credit history 100% TransUnion pulled 4 inquires 68,000 in credit and utilization at 8% did I miss something?

Flagship is their signature card with minimum 5K limit.

Thats is usually NOT the first card one should try for first .

Methinks DTI/util may have also dampened your chance

Unless you have a new-ish credit profile , your scores are on the lowish end

Getting approved for FS on the first card immediately after opening an account is highly unusual. It has a minimum SL of 5000$. Navy is known for giving SL 1k - 3k on the first card, even for high income earners. They are additionally sensitive to DTI.

I don't think their scores are too low at all, however are these your actual FICO scores? If so and they only offered the secured I guess they see something they are not comfortable with ?

They offer it any time you're denied.

Navy always gives a smaller limit for the first card. Guarantee the reason for denial will be you didn't meet the minimum credit limit for flagship. It's always recommended to save the cards you really want for the 2nd and 3rd apps.

Yes they are my real FICO scores and I have more than 3 credit card with higher than 10,000 starting limits. I think the thing that struck me the most was while I understand it's their flagship card why not recommend another unsecured credit card? What's up with the secured card that they recommend?

As @Brian_Earl_Spilner just stated they offer when you are denied , which I didn't realize, sorry . So ignore my last comment . I agree I don't think you met the 5K criteria.

Also their preapprovals are not guaranteed as this has been stated several times here recently as that feature is fairly new .

I am not sure but maybe you can recon and see if you can get approved for a CashRewards or MoreRewards with the same HP. It may be worth a shot, all they can say is NO.

Call them and ask for the same pull be used for the Cash Back card, platinum or Go Rewards. You can always switch products down the line.

91/3 apply for the FS card, better results for approval.

I had lower scores, DTI was about 10%, mortgage adds to my approval rate. In 18 months I'm at 31k with Navy, and still growing with an overall 55% utilization.

They need to wait for the letter. Recon won't discuss the AA reason. If it's for not getting the limit, they don't need to speak to anyone, just apply for a different card. Same pull should be used. That's what I did for my Platinum.

Even those of us with cards and get denied still get offered the secured card on occasion. No biggie. Problem i see is you took their prequal as solid gold which it is not. Honestly its still like throwing gum on the wall to see if its sticks. Some people just throw gum better

Could you give us some DPs because for no baddies, low UT, etc, your scores should be higher. What is AAOA, AOYA, AOOA, UT on each card in your possession, and inqs in the last 3/6/12 mos?

Many say you need to have a prior relationship with them such as checking, mortgage, direct deposits, or the secured card with the horrible low limits first before you can get Flagship card. For example, I had the nRewards for about 8 years and the limit only grew from 1k-->3k. Then I applied for Flagship and bam, $25k max SL with lowest apr. Just gotta show NFCU a little love and they'll give you what you want.
