AMEX Gold card app pending?

Using a referral link by me the DW applied for the Gold card back on 9/18 and did not get an immediate decision. When she checked the application status page it was showing as pending and to check back in 24 hrs. Since it was basically the weekend and with current banking climate she didn't think nothing of it and would check back Monday

Monday came and it was still showing pending. The same message each day up to today. She hasn't bothered to call the number on the page and she just informed me about it awhile ago. We plan to give it today before calling in tomorrow to see what the hold up is

Anyone encounter this kind of situation before? @Anonymous's credit profile is the one we try to keep as app free as possible and we figured having the SUB/referral bonus to go with also having a way of separating two household grocery bills was a solid decision. There is nothing to worry about with AMEX themselves as well considering we're PIF with both her personal and biz plat cards, not counting AU cards she has with them as well

Tried searching the forum for similar circumstances but came up empty so figure I'd ask forum members if anyone has any insight on what the hold up is and/or what we can expect if we have to call them tomorrow

Call them they will ask if you applied and/or in military and should yield approval.. Went through similar before of AF cards especially charge cards. I have had many many many CC's with amex the Gold card I had this exact hang up as well

Sometime in February dh app'd for the BCE. Never heard anything back so he app'd for the Regions Life card a short time after. One evening in early March I believe Amex left a voice mail for dh to call them. Seems like it was 25 days later. It was a long time. I quit checking on the status and figured it'll happen when it happens. Maybe just ride the wave for awhile longer. Just be sure to answer that cell phone in the evening.

@CreditCuriosity is this normal for any future AF cards? I ask because she had no issues with her Plat cards at time of application. Same goes for Delta biz cards as well now that I think about it. Forgot about those two cards only because after SUB/status spend she put those on backburner. Like you i figured if anything it was either that or referral that caused pause in app

@GApeachy so it's sounding like a security-related issue to make sure there's no fraud. I'll have her double check to make sure she didn't get any text, call, email or voicemail from them then. You wouldn't happen to have record of number they called from would you?

@simplynoir Not sure if normal just possibly they wanted to possibly no I was getting into an AF card before they finished the approval literally it was did you apply for the amex gold card and are you active military(guessing AF waiver)? Then answered yes/no and they approved it.. Just the application # and status I called and connected me to agent and said this is the first ever non-instant approval I have had from you all and they just said it was security and "normal".. Also have had multiple versions of plat along with delta's etc.. So was abit thrown off, but have seen this myself and with a few personal friends from amex.. Funny thing is I did refer a friend and gave him a referral code and he was an instant approval and this was his FIRST amex card.. Go figure.. If she has a few mins give them a call as you both have a long relationship with them through you business if not mistaken so doubt it is anything more than verification.

Her biz cards see a lot of action while her Schwab Platinum is used to cash out some of the points since no immediate personal travel. Why we shifted some spend onto my BofA PR card for better rewards but a good chunk is still on her biz plat. But yeah we'll call them tomorrow morning and see what's going on. We just checked status and it still says pending/in progress so I'm thinking it's a security issue like @GApeachy alluded to just don't know why they haven't contacted us about it unless it's being mailed

Dh does have a fraud alert on his Exp. and it did take a very long time before they reached out to him. I do remember he had to read his Driver's License # to her. After that he hung up and said he was approved.

@simplynoir No, I don't have a phone number. I did look on Dh's Exp cr and they pulled on Feb 18 and the card opened on March 11.

Update

It was a security/fraud issue that caused the delay in the decision for the app. According to the agent she said they attempted to call her to verify she applied for the card but going through her phone she got no such call. They had her submit a picture of her driver's license to a 3rd party for verification while on the phone before AMEX approved her instantly. Card should be here Tuesday

Ditto, congrats to DW too. Glad that's all it was. Dh's phone has a spam blocker that does block Amex and Cap1 when they call from certain numbers. Maybe that could be the delay reason and why she couldn't find it in her log. I'm thinking that's it for dh.
