Except in VERY rare cases, you have to wait at least 6 months for a CLI...and it's usually automatically offered.

I had mine for about 4 months, used it very heavily and paid in full each month. Around 6 months I got a CLI of 300 to make the total limit 800, and was also offered a second card with a 950 limit. They have both sat at those limits for like 3 years now. Credit one gets a lot of grief and they really have no perks, but they got my credit to improve enough to start getting other lenders to consider me. So hopefully yours grows, but if it doesn't, there will be other lenders who give you a card that will.

It just doesn't seem like their business model.

If you're to the point that you deserve a better limit, then go get a better card.

A lot of peeps like to rag on credit one but I've had nothing but good with them. Without them I wouldn't have been able to hammer my rebuild journey. I have two accounts with them still one from 2014 the other from 2016.

First Card Then:

- started as their standard "platinum" card

- $200 limit

- $7.25/mo annual fee

- fees for expedited payments

First Card Now:

- $1500 limit

- first Cli I had to pay $14.95 for ($300 cli)

- every other Cli offer I've called to decline and when they asked why I said due to fees. Every cli has been free if I'm "saddened" enough Bc of our long relationship

- other CLI $500 in nov 2018, $350 in April 2019 and they hit me with a surprise auto cli of $150 this billing cycle sept 2020

- called April 2019 to get the cli fee waived and while there complained about this being my only annual fee card, they modified the card to remove the annual fee permanently as a gesture of goodwill to keep me from closing it because of our long relationship

Second Card Then:

- offered second account in 2016 with no AF

- SL $750

- accepted to get more payments reporting

- score was abysmal at the time

- CLI of $250 (can't remember date but was about a year after I got it so 2017) offered with fee. Called they waived fee

- Auto CLI of $500 July 2019 (no fee)

They can be a bit of a pain to get on the phone but the reps have always been polite.

Ive had times where cards were maxed out for months on end making mins and then I PIF and let them sit -- that generated my CLI offers. Normal use and PIF each month resulted in no CLI request but letting a high balance sit a few months then PIF almost ways has generated an offer of a CLI.

They actively watch for fraud. I tried using the card to buy an Apple Watch through Apple and they locked the card down. I called they released saying they just wanted to make sure it was valid.

They're my lowest limit cards now but with no AF I'm basically sock drawer with them now for my AAOA as well as Utilization I keep them open charging my newspaper subscription to one and my trash to another monthly. They're happy and I'm happy to have em reporting payments every month.

Best I can say from my experience treat em well and they'll treat you well. I've never had issue with them.

My only complaint - standard payments sometimes take 3-4 business days to show as available even after they got their loot and the balance reports as paid but I never NEED to have that available with them now.

YMMV but unlike a lot of others I've had zero issues with them.

I believe Credit One's highest limit is $2500. They would give me a CLI every 6 months, while charging me and I stupidly paid it because I didn't know any better at the time, until I hit $2500 and I never saw another one. They just kept offering me a new account which is stupid. My card had an annual fee, and Credit One also charges interest on day 1, instead of the 20-24 day grace period on every other card.

Once your score is above 700 or you have another couple cards with decent limits, get rid of Credit One and never look back. They helped me rebuild my credit also, but that's all they are and then throw them away. They're not a good company to hold on to. They're crooks.
Discover or Capital one, would be a company I'd hold on to after a rebuild. Even though I despise Capital One, personally.

CO was the first card willing to give me a decent CL after my bk a little over 2 years ago.

I got the Visa with a $1650 limit just a month or 2 after discharge. I only used it a few times for very small amounts and paid it off right away due to the 0 grace period.

about 6 months later they offered me a MC with an $800 limit and a grace period, and i accepted that.

2 years later, both cards finally just offered me my first CLI (no fee or credit pull) of $250 each.

my score is showing now as 710, not sure if that matters.

They're predatory.

It's fine that you have no qualms with them but it's kinda funny that you kinda sorta contradict yourself back and forth. You say you have no issues but talk about it being difficult to reach them or how in order to get a "fee free" CLI you have to basically go through retention-save reps to wipe the fee off.

You say they treat you well and you're happy but the next sentence talks about how badly they screw up payments you make to them.

They charge for an increase - that's laughable and pathetic all in one breath. Again, they're predatory, they're a (mod cut-not here pls) company that nobody should be using outside of your beginning credit rebuild journey as that is the ONLY one thing they're good for - extending credit to those with the lowest possible scores.

Credit one is a good company, their fees are extremely transparent, predatory lenders will attempt to extend credit that the borrower cannot afford, credit one doesn't do that. The interest rates and fees are very comparable to other big bank cards, there are predatory cards out there with all kinds of unavoidable fees, credit one isn't one of them. The credit limit increase fee is odd but easily avoidable (I've never had a fee for it, but I've only had the card a year) the only fee I've ever paid is 39 dollar annual fee per year. No monthly fees, no account set up fees, no interest if paid in full. Payments are posted very quickly, but it take a few days for the credit limit to reflect it, which further promotes responsible use. Cash back is automatically posted monthly as a credit to the account, which offsets the annual fee. Their customer service is available and helpful. I would use them long-term!

I agree with the other posters' praise on this thread. CO extended me credit during a BK13, which helped me reestablish credit during (not after) my bankruptcy. I was even able to get a mortgage just before discharge. Right after discharge, I got the 3 new cards you see below. Total success story. I have pretty much completed my rebuild and I am only 4 months out of BK. When everything falls off next year, my scores will be incredible and they have helped the AAoA immensely.

They are transparent with the fees. I pay an AF of $39 and have a very competitive 17.49% interest rate. I have seen some crazy interest rates from real predatory lenders like First Premier upwards of 36%. I paid for one CLI, but that was before I realized you could just wait them out and eventually they just give it to you for free. But, they were transparent about that fee as well. It was my choice to accept it. I may call them up before the AF hits to see if I can get it permanently removed, but I may keep them around for a bit longer as I have no issues with them. And hey, let's see if I can hit that $2500 mark. I started with $300 during a bankruptcy, now $1,650, so I think they have been more than fair.

They are good at what they do and I thank them.

I have two CO cards and nearing the end of my credit rebuild. They offered the second card and at the time I took the offer to improve my overall utilization. I haven't had any issues with them.

I have not tried to get any credit line increases but have been given periodic automatic CLIs.

Still my card limits are low at $1050 and $1350. I just recently paid off all my credit cards and could now probably qualify for other better cards. However, I'm in the garden until we apply for a new mortgage later this year

On their website they list several cards at three levels (1) rebuilder with high fees, (2) annual fee $39 for average credit; and (3) rewards card with no annual fee.

Since I don't need any HPs right now with mortgage app coming up, I'm wondering if they'll do a product change to a better card if I call and try to close one or both cards. If I can get a PC I may keep their card.

My spin on Credit one and CLI

For the first few years I occasionally paid the 19.95 fee for a CLI, occasionally they ran it up to 24.95. The lines varied, no rhyme or reason.

What I found is if I did nothing, month by month the offer would typically increase and at some point the fee would decrease. In several cases, holding out a few months, the fee would disappear all together. I played this game for years with Credit one. After maybe paying for CLI 3 or 4 times, I never paid again, never called them or anything. Although, I will add about 2 1/2 to 3 years ago, all the offers dried up. I have not seen any offers, even though I would get the teaser it would always show a big ZERO for an increase.

For me, I just recently closed them. When they asked why, I told them failure to offer CLI's was one of my reasons. They could not explain the long dry spell, although they offered a paltry $200 CLI I still closed them a month later before the AF. My apr was 17%, and I had them since 2013, My highest CL was 1850 then 2050 when they added the $200 bucks to try to seduce me.

Bottom line, don't pay if you do not have to. They want your business and even if they say no on the phone have the patience and hold out, you may save some $$$
