NFCU Pull

Hello everyone!
I just became a NFCU member (yay!) and I applied for the platinum card. I got denied because I didn't meet their criteria but on the pre qual I saw that I was pre qualified for the secured. I have a 2y 2m old BK7. I wanted to know, if I were to call and try to obtain the secured card or even re-apply online would they do another hard pull on my credit report?

Stranger things have happened in this world but you should by default expect another HP if you re-apply. If you call in you can ask if they will reuse the existing HP, just don't be surprised if they tell you it will be another HP.

@supill Sorry to hear about the denial. Did you get the letter yet?

I agree with @coldfusion, I couldn't find any recent posts about Navy re-using hard pulls. It seems to be a ymmv situation, even with lenders who are known to reuse hard pulls. I would call in and expect a hard pull for the secured.

The system will try to reuse a pull within the last 30 days, but if it can't match you to the recent app, it will pull again. I just went through it. Letter came showing only reason for denial was I didn't qualify for minimum starting limit of flagship even though I was pre-approved. After sending secure message asking about reuse, I applied for the Platinum instead and was approved with no additional pulls.

I had a similar situation. I applied for a cash Rewards, got denied. Wanted to try for a secured instead, so a few days later I called and asked (or sent a SM, don't remember) about re-using HPs, and they advised it would be another HP if I applied for the secured card. I wasn't happy about it, but I decided it was worth the risk anyway, so I went ahead and applied online and got approved for the secured card, and no second HP ever popped up.

In the past I've seen that they will email you after being declined and offer you the secured card.

I applied for one of their cards last month the same day that I opened my account and was denied. This was on Friday and it resulted in a hard pull. So the following Monday I called in and applied for the secured card which I did get approved for and it DID result in another hard pull.

I think it's because you called in; if you had applied online the second time, I believe you would have avoided the second HP.

So if I'm understanding everyone correctly, I could try to avoid the second hard pull if I apply online for the secured, but of course it could be a YMMV type of situation?

I don't know about other's experiences, but that was my experience; doing both applications online.
