FNBO PRE APPROVAL? Not sure

So I received a letter in the mail saying " congratulations , you have earned this exclusive opportunity and are just steps away from your new platinum edition Visa card". I don't even bank with them . Is this a pre approval ? Not sure because it says Invitation at the bottom .

@texasman07,

It is a pre-approval. Not an actully approval and you can still get declined.

Check the credit database if you haven't already to get an idea of what people where approved at, limits etc..

+1, if your situation/scores are close to others that have been approved then I'd say go for it

I got an invitation to apply for the Amex on Monday. Applied on Tuesday, got approved on Thursday for $5500 don't know the apr yet.

I just applied and got approved today for $2,500. Not sure my APR yet either (for BCE tho)

I got the 2-4 week message last night and it can't find my application when I check the status. Did you have the same issue ?

I even got a better response on their Amex website. ( MA and/or FL residence.)

Had a few of these letters show up over the last 4 months or so, but didnt see anything special about it so just tossed them at the time. Basic card, no rewards, only bonus was the free monthly EX FICO. Anyhow, got another one in the mail yesterday. Didn't necessarily need it, as I had a few nice accounts open in the last few months, but now I am interested in the free score. Pulled the trigger and got instant approval after about 30 seconds of "processing". Rather surprised to be honest. According to EX report, they last softed me on 12/4/14.

Checked the status this morning (also got the email about it overnight, but overlooked it) and was given $1300 limit. Sitting at about 26% util across the boards, CK TU score of 646, CK EQ score 611. 14 months AAoA, newest account 3 months.

Pre-approvals certainly aren't guaranteed, but seems like if you are out of their standard footprint and get an invitation, you should be OK as long as not much change to credit profile since their SP.
