@Anonymous wrote:

28 days counts for sure. My first statement from Navy was 25 days and that counted - I was able to get an increase at 91/3.

Perfect! I was hoping for some experience based answers. As I said above in a reply to AJC, 28 days definitely *feels* like a full statement, so I'm glad to hear that somewhere in that 25-28 day range counts as full.

Okay so, I would appreciate some clarification if someone's willing to help me out with this...

-Husband and I both got our first Navy cards 5/27. Was hoping to squeak in our 91/3 for second cards before the current SUBs expire at the end of August.

-According to my math, our 91 days from approval would be 8/26 (have 8/27 marked on calendar for safety, might wait until 8/30 for extra cushion).

-Husband's card cut the first statement 6/4, (only 8 days after getting approved!). Clearly a partial first statement, so his 3rd full statement wouldn't be until 9/4.

-Conclusion for Husband: Won't be eligible for 2nd card until after 9/4, not in time for current SUBs.

-My card cut 1st statement 6/24, 28 days after approval. Is this still considered a partial statement, or is this long enough to count as a full statement?

-If partial, then I'm in same boat as Husband and won't be eligible as I won't be at 3 full until 9/24. If it's considered full, then I'd be at 3 full on 8/24, and 91 days 8/26, therefore squeaking in before end of August SUBs expiration.

So.. would that be a partial or full first statement?

Also, I've seen people apply for new card/CLI and be denied for being too early, and I realize this doesn't reset the 91/3 or 181 day "clock", however does NFCU still HP if you're too early on a new card app?

Or if it would still be considered a partial? I've had "full" statements with other companies range from 28-32 days. It's much easier to tell if its a partial in situations like DH's when it was only 8 days, lol. That's obvious. But the 28 days puts me on the fence, because I am unsure if it is long enough. Does it have to be 30+ days to count as full in this situation? Or is 28 long enough?

As far as waiting to see next quarter's SUBs.. DH will definitely have to since he got a clearly short first statement and won't hit 3 full in time. So we may end up with a mix, of him waiting and me trying to squeeze in. But, I may end up waiting it out as well if I'm feeling too nervous on the timing.

In our experience, it wasn't only about the number of days the statement was cut since receiving an approval on a Navy CC app. I think the real hint to look for is actually the Minimum Payment Due on that 1st statement. If it is a short statement and it shows a $0 MPD, then I believe you should wait for a 4th statement. If that MPD is any amount other than $0, then I think that 1st statement counts as a "full" statement even if it doesn't include 28+ days.

My two DD's and DW each have two CC's with Navy. Typically, we would use the card the day it arrived to verify everything was good. With that practice, the first statement ALWAYS posted a MINIMUM PAYMENT DUE other than $0... even if the statement cut early at 14 days since application. All 6 CC's were able to get a CLI around 91-100 days and only 3 statements (including several statements with less than 20 days since application approval) and they were approved for their 2nd Navy CC's.

For my Navy CC that I got a few months ago, I didn't put any spend on it immediately. I had an early statement cut, and it had no minimum payment due on that first statement. I will definitely wait on my 4th statement (aka 3 "full" statements) before applying for my 2nd card or CLI.

This is just my theory and it needs more DP's to be confirmed. I wish I had put some spend on my card immediatly, then I could have tested the theory with a CLI request this month.

Thank you everyone for the responses. It seems the consensus is that my 28 day first statement counts as full, so I think I will try it after the third statement hits and we shall see how it goes. I have ~two weeks left, so I will update this with the outcome then!

Updating since I said I would:

I did not end up applying for a second card, due to a change in personal circumstances/plans. However, I did still go for the CLI. My 3rd statement would've cut Aug 24th and my 91 days would've been Aug 26/27th. I waited until after the weekend and requested the CLI on Aug 31st. Less than 24 hours later it was approved and reflecting in my available credit. So, it appears that, yes, my first statement did in fact count as a full one.

Thanks everyone!

As the OP has provided an update on their successful CLI, this thread is now locked and closed to new messages. Nice job with the CLI, OP!
