If they need to verify your address, they should ask. They did with me. And saying you plan on using it as your main card is a potential selling point (though I'm not sure the underwriters really care), but I wouldn't mention the groceries. That makes it sound like you're getting the card just for the SUB. In any case, good luck!

Hi everyone,

Need help! So I have been eyeing and wanting the CFU and finally applied for the Chase Freedom Unlimited about 3 days ago. So I logged into my Credit Journey account and l went to look for the card and it automatically took me to the website and I had to log in in the website again.

So I wasn't sure how to get pre-approved for cards so I of course I applied and it didn't even ask for my ssn or anything else it seemed to have my address, asked for my income, and how much I pay in rent. I hit submit and it had this message about receiving a letter in 7-10 days and that it was denied.

I read some post about what that message means so I called 1-888-270-2127 to hopefully get a recon and the automated message says your application is being reviewed you will get a letter in 7-10 days. So does it ever say denied instead of reviewed??? Also I called this other number 1-800-945-2000 and I finally got through to someone because the first number I've tried but can not get through to a live person after waiting 30 minutes or so. So I end up hanging up and tried the 2nd number.

Anyways I get through explained the situation and how I have been really interested in the card and finally decided to apply. She said ok let me check that for you, she asked for my card number and I said I don't have a card number yet which was weird and then she asked me for my ssn and came back saying she couldn't find anything under my ssn and then asked for my phone number. Still nothing! But I said it HP my Experian CR so I was confused.

She then said let me get you to a lending service agent and umm don't hand up ok and I heard some music for a quick 5 seconds and then it went quiet blank like no music, no nothing which they usually do have music when waiting. After 5 minutes I looked at my phone screen my phone was still on and going but no one came back on the phone I said dam I think I just got booted, put on hold to just hang up, did she just shut me out or something, or maybe she let me stay on the phone until I hang up myself???? Urgh......

So of course I waited still and put my phone on speaker in case and let it keep going, I then checked after 30 minutes or so and said to myself, I hear no music but my phone call is still going I think no one's coming back so I just said F it, I'll try a different number later.

So my question is did she really see that my application got denied and didn't want to tell me or that she really couldn't find my application??? Both CSR and I repeated my ssn a few times to be sure too.

So here's my CR profile: Chase pulled my Experian, my AAOA 10 months, had 2 HP's on EX before app for the Chase FU now it is 3 hp (1 HP for a unsecured personal loan I applied for on 11/19 and got approved for $3,000, and 1 HP for Discover It on 11/25 got approved for $2,500 but both accts have not reported yet. Before I had app for CFU

my Fico 8: EX 750- 2 HP now it is 742.

Fico 8 TU 771-1 HP

Fico 8: EQ 717-2 HP)

When I applied for my unsecured personal loan WF pulled all 3 CR's.

So I've been credit invisible for a ling time because I used to have a Macy's cc but messed up long ago but have not had any credit for over 11 years or so but I had some collections but those fell off years ago and I didn't even have a credit score for the last few years or more and finally got my 1st credit card back in 2/2021 and had to wait 6 months to get a fico score and since then no baddies, no late payments always on time, no collections of any sort showing on all 3, no derog's or anything like that at all, util 2% reporting which is $15. I have my 1st WF credit card since 2/25/21 was not secured and got approved for $1,000 when I first applied (WF did SP to give me a $300 CLI on 11/16/21 and I PC on the same day to the WF Active Cash but the new cl hasn't reported yet which should be soon in 2 days or so.

What are my chances of getting a recon when I finally get through to someone?? Should I have waited for my new loan, new Discover it, and my new SP cl to report first before I had app for the CFU?? I feel like I should of waited a few more days and maybe I could of had a better chance at getting approved.... I hope I get through to a live human instead of hearing music on the line only!!

Please any advices would help and what do I need to do??

I can't provide a lot of advice, but I'm in a similar situation. I'm new to credit (first card in May, instead of your February), just applied for a Chase Freedom (though I chose the Flex), and was denied (immediately after I hit submit). I waited for the letter, and the reasons they gave weren't a surprise -- too new to credit, and no other accounts with Chase. But when I called, they didn't bring up any of that. They just needed documents to verify my address and SSN. After I sent the documents, I called back, and they asked a bunch of questions about income and debt, and said I'd hear back with a decision in 2 weeks. So I'm in limbo.

Sounds like you got lost in phone tree/CSR purgatory, but that happens fairly frequently. I wouldn't read anything into it. You should just call back, and say you were disconnected. Even if you're frustrated, remember to be pleasant. It's not the fault of whomever you reach, and they're in the position to do you a favor. I can vouch that the x2127 number does work. When it asked for my card number, I just waited, and eventually it booted me into a different part of the phone tree. I forget the exact steps, but I had to hit 0 at some point to get to a real person.

From what everyone's said since, Chase wants to see at least a year's worth of credit history. That's probably the biggest factor in both our applications, and it's not something either of us can do anything about. So there's no guarantee.

Thank you I will keep that in mind. I'm hoping that maybe they just need verification as Experian isn't showing my current address but all my old addresses too but if course maybe it is a straight denial. My 1st and main cc with WF when I app back in 2/2021 was through Equifax but does report to all 3 though. Since then I've been using the card alot and leave a very small balance reporting. I hope I can get through to someone and get recon but I've been really wanting to get in with Chase too and the CFU is a card that could be really useful and will probably be my go to card since I do, do alot of grocery shopping and am also hoping to take my family on a vacation next year and possibly some more trips.

My guess is that when you were on the phone with Chase the last rep you spoke with screwed up the call transfer and plopped you into the void. Life be like that sometimes, it's happened to me more than once with other lenders.

I would just call back the Robolady and transfer to a CSR. It would only take a few seconds to explain that there was a problem when the nice CSR tried to transfer you and the call appeared to have been dropped.

The reason for denial could be tied to the 2 inquiries you took within the last month even though neither account is yet reporting, but that shouldn't deter you from calling again and attempting to recon.
